Palatheio
Less than a week ago we saw that "Bright Nights" was enabled by a mistake, and it was corrected. Now, "Bright Nights" is a part of the changelog, and at night you can see for miles. This essentially renders glowsticks, flashlights and flares mostly useless. Night should be scary, something that you avoid travelling during unless you're planning on being stealthy for whatever reason. Earlier today, I watched someone walk up the road near my house at the middle of the night from when they were at least a hundred meters away. Maybe "Bright Nights" could be enabled one weekend out of every month, to represent a full moon, but I don't believe that the nights should be visible the vast majority of the time. 1 Link to comment

Diamond EmonOkari Posted February 17, 2020 Diamond Share Posted February 17, 2020 (edited) Its dark as can be on Chernarus. Is the 'Bright Night' on Livonia only? Edited February 17, 2020 by EmonOkari Link to comment
El Presidente Roland Posted February 17, 2020 El Presidente Share Posted February 17, 2020 My reasoning for turning it to bright nights: + Makes finding and conducting RP easier during the night when you can see each other + Makes it much easier to record/stream during night time - Not as hardcore or realistic as dark nights - Lowers the value, desirability and usage of lamps, flashlights and NVGs In the end I think the increased accessibility added with bright nights is more important than the usage of accessories or increased navigation difficulty 2 minutes ago, EmonOkari said: Its dark as can be on Chernarus. Wanderer
With people using light sources it can be even more likely to find other players during the night. With changes like "bright nights" or the "stronger infected" a lot of items seem to get useless for me on dayzrp (like certain guns, light sources). In my opinion a lot of immersion gets lost by doing that. Edited February 17, 2020 by Wanderer 1 Link to comment

I'll try Chernarus again today and confirm. Possibly my monitor. Edit: or my failure to read there is a new patch today. Edited February 17, 2020 by EmonOkari I'm slow intellectually. Link to comment

By having the nights genuinely dark, and forcing people to ICly hunker down for the night instead of just marching through the darkness I believe it provokes more roleplay in the form of actually being able to chat amongst each other, or maybe cook a meal or something. Some of the best RP I've had on this server was spontaneous "we should hunker down in this house here, for the night." 1 Link to comment
Diamond cjackson821 Posted February 17, 2020 Diamond Share Posted February 17, 2020 On Livonia, when it is night time and there is rain it's still impossible to see without a light. Scary when you wolves out too Link to comment
Diamond EmonOkari Posted February 18, 2020 Diamond Share Posted February 18, 2020 (edited) After experiencing this brighter-night in Chernarus, I have a couple thoughts: 1) It seems to feel like 'gibbous moonlight' in-game night now. Which I prefer to a full-moon night that one struggles to see 5 feet front of their face. While I'd prefer the brighter 'personal nightlight' would go away now that nighttime is so much brighter (making the entering of a building that much creepier/cooler and keeping flashlights/glow-sticks/NVG still valuable), I'm personally good with the brighter moonlit nights outside. 2) It often amazes me how much we can see IRL with even a little moonlight. In our astronomy club outings in the wilderness, we make moonlight 'shadow puppets' with our telescopes from any moon larger than a smallest of crescents. Even the Milky Way will cast a shadow in places far enough from city lights. Edited February 18, 2020 by EmonOkari Link to comment

Nah bruh you turned it on because @Zanaan asked nicely last night and he's your favorite child. Link to comment
Guest
While I don't like the brighter nights, I can get behind the reasons that it was added. It makes night time a bit more enjoyable and using accessories like a flashlight, flare or NVGs are still viable, although not necessary. Link to comment
MVP AndreyQ Posted February 18, 2020 MVP Share Posted February 18, 2020 I don't like brighter nights but I also don't like normal nights. If there was an in between I'd take that. Link to comment
