Punishment does not fit the crime

^These are the official logs from the raid. As you can see, "Jameson Walker" was not involved in tearing down or breaking any structures. I typically do not carry raid materials as I see them a waste of inventory space. During most the extent of the raid, I remained in a nearby housing complex ~200m away keeping eye out for possible contact. I remained there for over 15 minutes until nightfall set in and my sight was useless as I did not possess night optic devices. It was then, toward the end of the happenings, that I entered the schoolhouse compound and kept a gate watch. As the situation started to round off, several others and I thoroughly inspected to make sure no loose gear items unwanted by us were lying on the ground. Had we left scattered items from any storage device found in the base lying around and they had despawned, the "grief" would come into play. After checking all was good, I entered the nearby vehicle and exited the compound.

The logs state that 15 total "Fences" were dismantled. Each section of a wall (top, bottom, and 2 frames) is classified as a fence in the DayZ module. The ban report states we were involved in dismantling 14 walls. This is false information being as if the dismantles (15) were divided by 4 (4 portions of a wall) it would total to 3 complete walls and 3 sections of a full wall being dismantled. I can attest to seeing 2 full walls having been dismantled at the main entrance of the base to allow for the vehicles to enter and exit. The other dismantles were only portions of walls being removed to allow prone entry into an area since this area had several fences scattered throughout the multi-roomed building. The ban also states at least 4 H-Barriers were removed. This is correct. The hescos were repacked and utilized at our (the offenders) compound. They were not removed due to grief but for repurposeing.

What would you like to achieve with this appeal:

In my view, a removal or reduction of the sentence would be appropriate. Not for just me but all involved. I feel the information was not given due process and investigated throughout and action was taken too soon. All involved have served almost 3 days of being denied to play the server they all put in the time and effort to create characters and pass through the whitelist process for. I feel this has been more than enough punishment for people who meticulously and actively demonstrated measures to ensure no grieving was involved and all "grieving" in question was justifiable with standard raid etiquette (i.e. destruction of fences to gain access). All act made were necessary and no unnecessary action was taken.

What could you have done better?:

As in all situations, and online raid for both parties would have been preferable for RP reasons. However, due to timezones, that is not always possible. It is unfortunate for the offended that it occurred this way, it just happened to be the time the members of my group were all in server at once and time restrictions on when people needed to leave dictated the situation. In the future a confirmation of all involved being online and able to create a better atmosphere for RP and understanding should be considered. I do not like the idea though of setting a time OOC as this can create a meta-game mindset for some involved with is also against the rules and has a possibility to cause more issues. Meta-gaming is a crime in which is more difficult to prove since it is typically more of an OOC thought. Another possible solution would be to inform the owner of the base (if known) that it had been raided, this too though could create and OOC meta-game mentality and the owner would be forever "searching" for that character and could cause IC troubles that are not justified later.

Hello @Jameson Walker

A separate team of staff members have reviewed your appeal as well as the original verdict and after much deliberation have reached the conclusion to accept it.

As you did not break down any walls or barricades, we have no grounds to warrant a punishment of griefing. The damage done to the base was proportionate to the IC reasoning. Even in situations where rulebreaks are committed, it is unjust in nearly all cases to pass a blanket punishment over the accused party. Due to this we will be revoking your ban and removing your warning points.

With the above stated, the following applies.

Appeal accepted. Ban and warning points removed.
