Artem was born in a working class family; his father, Pavlo (08/01/1967), was a miner who worked very hard to provide for his family. His mother, Svitlana (09/09/1970), Ensured that the house was clean and working properly. Artem was considered a Miracle to his parents, because Svitlana had 3 miscarriages before Artem was born. Artem's Parent's cherished him and wanted him to have a better life. As Artem grew up, his father made sure that he was strong, while his mother made sure he was smart and stayed in school. Although they were hard on Artem, they still showed him love and allowed him time to relax and have fun. Artem, however, did have a secret he hid from his parents; he loved fire. He was fascinated by it. Artem would grab miscellaneous things from around the house or woods and burn it. Since his father was a coal miner, coal was usually kept around the house for fuel. Artem once took some coal out into the woods, poured lighter fluid on the pile and lit it with a match. The fire roared quickly and Artem put his hands out in front of him to shield himself from the heat, which resulted in his hands catching on fire. Artem threw his hands into the dirt to put out the fire on his hands, but the coal fire grew bigger and caught the grass on fire. Artem ran home and showed his mother his hands. Artem told his mother what had happened. Once she dressed the wounds, Artem was told to wait in his room until his father got home. When Pavlo arrived, Artem was met with a swift strike across his face from his father's hand. Pavlo demanded Artem tell him where the fire was; Artem told him. They both drove out to the site and witnessed a grand fire. Bushes and trees were burning and the fire was spreading quick. Pavlo called the Ukrainian Fire Department and quickly fled.
When Artem turned 14, His father started teaching him how to use and care for guns. Artem became very familiar with guns and loved them. He quickly became a great shot and was able to clean his guns without his father's assistant. His father told him something very important, "These guns will protect you. They will protect others. No matter what you decide to do with your life, Artem, don't forget how to defend yourself".
When he was 15, that's when his father took him out to hunt. Artem rode with his father to a secluded area in the woods. It wasn't until Artem got out of the car that he asked his father what they were hunting. His father responded, "Wolves". Artem was scared but grabbed his Remington 700 Sniper Rifle and followed his father, who was carrying a Century N-Pap DF Semi-Auto Rifle. His father took Artem to a stand in the middle of the woods with barbed wire around it. His father poured rabbit blood on the barbed wire and told Artem to get his rifle ready. A few hours went by when Artem heard howls. He raised his rifle as he saw a pack of 6 wolves come out of the bushes 200 meters away. Artem shot 2 wolves as they came, but could not shoot anymore as they got closer. His father shot a couple more and the rest ran off. Artem was relieved to be done, but noticed one wolf struggling to escape, his father had shot it in the hip. Artem asked his father if they could help it. His father simply shook his head, grabbed out his hunting knife, and gave it to the boy. Artem went over to the wounded wolf and looked back at his father. He knelt down by the wolf and plunged the knife into it's heart. They rounded up the wolves and took them back to their house to skin, quarter, dress, and eat.
When Artem was 18, he graduated number 6th in his class (2012), he went on to study Chemistry at Lugansk National University of the Iman Taras Shevchenko. While studying Chemistry, he befriended a Ukrainian girl named, Sofiya. They became a couple and were really close. When they both graduated, Sofiya suggested that they get out of Ukraine. Artem was conflicted; he wanted to go back and get a job near his home to support his family, but did not want to lose the love of his life. He ended up agreeing with Sofiya. They took a flight down to South Zagoria, Chernarus, where they found a place to stay in Chernogorsk. Artem got a job as a chemical engineer for the Zima Oil Company. Sofiya, who majored in Chemistry as well, got a job as an analytical Chemist for a mining company. They saved up enough money to eventually buy a house. When the outbreak occurred, however, Sofiya got sick. Artem took off a week to care for her but she was unable to recover, Artem went back to work the next week and returned home to see the house ablaze. There was no sign of Sofiya, and there was no way to tell if she died inside.
Artem got together some equipment to defend himself. He was approached by Mr. Zima and agreed to protect him and gather other people for a militia.
