During a science project at school, Alina tested her blood and figured out her father couldn't be her biological father, as their bloodtypes didn't match up. Wanting to confront her mother in person, she suggested to both her parents to study a year abroad in Chernarus, while living with her mother. Her father though it was a great idea, learning her mothers culture.

Alina's mother, Marika, had left both of them in Norway, when her father, Markus, had found out she had cheated on him with multiple men. When Alina was 11, the divorce was settled and her mother moved back to her home country.

That had a huge impact on Alina's decision to move. Her mother would completely cut her out of her life if she brought it up over the phone. While Marika was against Alina moving over, she allowed for her to move in with her aunt (sister) and uncle, who lived somewhere in Central Kopec. Alina moved as soon as summer break started and started her new school year in Chernarus from 2016 to 2017.

At the start of the school year, Alina traveled back to Norway twice to visit her father. She couldn't help viewing him differently, and decided not to visit him in 2017, clamining she was too busy with school, but in reality she didn't want to go back at all.

Early 2017, Alina finally confronted her mother. She denied everything and claimed Alina was spewing nonsense, saying she should've stayed with her father in Norway. But after a full day, Marika was talked into telling the truth by her sister. Worrying the truth would reach her ex-husband, she asked Alina to keep it from her father, as well as not to resent her for leaving her with what Alina claimed was a stranger.

Marika agreed to help locate her biological father, and sent a handwritten letter with a picture of Alina to her biological grandparents, somewhere in South Zagoria. Alina personally saw to the letter being sent, worrying her mother would sabotage it. She knew her biological father wanted nothing to do with them, as she had read the original letters, but she couldn't help not knowing.

After getting confirmation by her biological grandparents that the letters were received and sent to her biological father, Alina finally could breathe. She wanted to get to know her biological grandparents more, and continued to write to them, telling things about her life here and there. But they said they hadn't heard anything from her biological dad.

Alina continued school, but refused to leave the country before hearing news about her real father. They had booked a ticket out of the country half a week before school in Norway started again.

Then the infection hit.

They had bunkered up in the house. No one knew what was happening, only that they had gone from being just them to multiple families hiding out in their house. Many of them had lost loved ones. There were kids crying all the time. Some of Alina's school friends were there as well. It was extremely frustrating for her, as she barely understood the language.

Alina knew that if it came to it, she would have to be prepared to leave in a flash. She packed the most important things she could need in her bag, but kept her little tin box with information of her biological dad, copies of letters and some pictures of her family close.

With many people hidin out in their home, it was hard to keep up with those being uncareful. Those who lied about wounds and so on. One night Alina had stayed outside until the sun had gone down. She spotted one of the younger children run out of the house into a field, and she quickly ran after. After catching her, she heard screams coming from the house. Asking the child to wait, and hide in a bush, she ran back.

The images from inside the house had burnt itself into Alina's memory. Upstairs she had seen her mother and aunt dead and motionless on the floor. Some of the people were screaming in pain, others were bleeding out. But she quickly took note of the loud screetching noises coming from downstairs. It didn't take long before she spotted her uncle's bloody face, digging into someone at the bottom of the stairs. As soon as he saw her, he chased after her.

Alina managed to lock herself into her room. Grabbed her backpack and jumped out of the window. She injured her right foot in the fall, but kept going regardless. There was nothing left in that house. She quickly located the child she left earlier and they both went on their way. Alina carried the child through half the night until they found a place to hide out in. They both cried themselves to sleep.

About a week later, the child was killed by an infected as they were scavenging through a dead town. Alina blamed herself for that. She knew she couldn't stay, and when the infected had moved on, she ran and made her way towards the only family she hoped was still alive. Her biological grandparents.

Alina had gotten lost, but unknowingly had made her way into South Zagoria. She met a few people on the way, but she tried staying on her own for the most part, not wanting to watch someone slip through her fingers again.

Alina was kidnapped by a group of men and placed in confinement with a few other people. They didn't look healthy and it was incredibly cold. She figured she had been kept there for weeks, there was barely any food, and it got worse as more people were brought in. Some of the ones that had been there the longest died in their sleep due to the harsh weather conditions. People were taken in and out of that room, most who returned was full of wounds and bruises. None of the spoke to each other, the only time anyone spoke was when they were first brought in. And slowly they would succumb to the silence as well.

It was hard counting the days, as there was barely any natural light. If you were taken out, you could lose track of days. The only way was if someone told you when you returned, how long you were gone.

Two months after being captured, they managed to escape as swarm of infected broke into the building. Some were too weak to fight their way out, others went after the people, stealing their weapons and brutally murdering them. Alina on instinct went after her things, she managed to find her little tin box, and luckily everything was still in there.

After stealing some of their clothing, she ran out into the forest. Avoiding any road she could see for days. Worrying there would still be some of them out there, not knowing what was happening with their people.
