Jason grew up in Oregon, and as you may hear from many Oregonians: It was boring as hell. Due to this unavoidable boredom, Jason had to find something to occupy his time in the younger years. So, like many others before him, he resorted to drug use. It started off innocently, he'd go smoke a bowl with some buddies, maybe go to a small house party and pop some ecstasy. You know; the average everyday stuff. However, as the ever-progressing boredom began to re-envelope him: he had to go deeper. He started stealing a decent chunk of his parental figures' income, stole from the friends he didn't feel to close with (eventually they all started to seem that way to him); then, he would flush it all down the figurative toilet that is drug addiction.

Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Crack (kinda, he gave up after smelling that stuff when it burnt), he even got his hands on some bath salts. Now that was a trip. Anyways, he got worse and worse, eventually being hauled off to a rehab center. He spent a few years in that hole, and at least it had some fun stuff to do. Who new that existed in his boring state? After a few months, it seemed to the facility hands that they didn't have the personnel to give him the extensive treatment his case needed. So, they shipped him off to a better, more equipped facility in Quebec. After about a year and a half, he got the okay that his case was cured and they released him at his request.

Except Jason didn't want to go back to Oregon. To him, he finally got a chance to be rid of that boring hole. So he picked up a job in a small coffee house in the inner city, whittling away his time and his life. It didn't take long to get bored again.

Now, although this boredom wasn't as severe, he still needed a way to push it back. He tried to be healthier and just use caffeine as a substitute, but that just wouldn't be enough. He felt his mind slipping, even as his thoughts and movements flew by at the speed only a caffeine high could induce. In a lapse of judgement, Jason began to look for a drug den. It wasn't hard, it seemed that the city was having a growing drug issue over the decade. Just his luck, he guessed.

Just as before, Jason found himself in an ongoing state of high and before he knew it, years had gone by. Eventually he started to realize his health was failing him, he lost his job months ago, and he was stuck to living on the streets. He was only in his early 20's. However, as he was beginning to start traveling towards the long and painful path of drug abuse-induced death, his vision filled up with a single solitary hand extended down to him.

As he looked up, all he could see was a darkened outline of a man standing over him, the sun illuminating his back as if he were somehow an angel visiting the Earth. The man said very little, but the words stirred in Jason's chest.

"'Somewhere in a land far away, corrupted by war and misery, by disease and hunger, is the Garden of Eden. It's thought to possess mystical powers, such as granting the founder whatever he desire, as well as redemption and eternal life.' Do you think you'd be interested in helping my friends and I find it?"

It took Jason a few seconds for his drug-burned mind to process the words, even as his heart had already fully felt them. In those few moments, his mind made a decision. If he found the Garden of Eden with this man and his friends, the world would change for the better, it would be paradise. It wouldn't be boring.

He slowly reached up, weakly grasping the man's hand. As he made contact, Jason felt a warmth flow into him from the other man, giving him the strength to stand even with his emaciated, shaking legs.

Together, the two men began to walk; one spoke fervently and the other listened in awe.
