Alexander Silva is a young economist specialized in macroeconomics who used to work for the IMF as a policy maker. He was born in Lisbon, Portugal and had the privilege to pursue quality higher education. He went to study on Portugal’s best university and moved to the US to pursue a PhD. As he was top of his class most times, he quickly found a job at the IMF, his dream position. At IMF, he would go around the world to study different countries closer, he would act as a representative for the institution, to better understand what was happening in terms of monetary stability. In 2012, during the sovereign debt crisis that impacted mostly Europe, Alexander was told to go to Oslo, Norway, and alongside governmental institutions, he would go on to develop policies to help Norway get out of the crisis. Alexander was supposed to leave after the job was done, however he met someone and decided to have a family with her in Oslo. The IMF understood his position and they let him work remotely and act as IMF’s representative in Norway. But then, the outbreak hit. Alexander was still in Oslo during the first waves and had no intention of leaving now that he was married, and his wife was pregnant. On October 28th, 2021, the Norwegian government evacuated the most important government officials and included in that bunch, was Alexander. Alexander would be placed on the next priority train at 2:30 am with the destination to a small village near Nyheim, after that, there would be a government vehicle to transport him and his wife to the walled off city. It all seemed well, the couple was rushing to pack up things when suddenly, at 11:30pm they hear violent knocks on their door. Alexander’s wife thinking it was the government rushed to open the door, only to be surprised with their neighbour violently attacking her. Alexander quickly moved to help his wife but it was too late for her, she already had deep wounds and was bleeding a lot, she screamed for him to run. Alexander jumped out of the first floor window and entered his car, though he couldn’t stop crying and screaming, he knew he had to do his part for the government in order to help rebuild a better world. Nowadays, Alexander roams the streets of Nyheim, depressed, stressed and even started thinking about believing in some type of god just so he doesn’t lose all hope. As for the job, Alexander was tasked with understanding the local economy in order to develop economic policies that can help build the foundations of what a future economy will look like, and so, without any way of reaching the government, he writes on his notes daily thoughts and models so he doesn’t forget, with hope that one day he will be able to put something real together.
