My name is Danijel, and this is my story.
I was born as an only child in a small town called Nin on the shore of Dalmatia in the SFRY (Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia).
As a child I was very happy, I loved helping people.
When I was 5 years old the Yugoslav wars for independence started and my father had to go fight. Each day we would miss him even more.. I remember shells falling everywhere.. I don't remember a lot from when I was so young, but i remember the day my mother decided we needed to move more inland because the Serbians were getting too close to our town. On the way we encountered a few other families having the same idea and moving too. While we were walking a child of another family was running around and he stepped on a landmine.. It blew him in to pieces.. I can remember it to this day.. The sound of his mother crying and yelling and parts of his body scattered everywhere.. The buzzing and ringing in my ears.. I remember it like it happened yesterday.. The war lasted for another 5 years until I was 10 years old. We were so happy to hear the news our father was coming back alive and healthy!
After the war my family and I moved back to Nin now in the state of Croatia, my family would stay for the rest of their days.
A few years pass and I'm in high school. There I meet the woman I fall in love with, her name was Sara, she was the most beautiful girl in school.
A bit more time passes by. Prom is coming close. I want to ask her to come with me to prom.
I consider myself very smart, but I came up with a stupid plan where I hide a rose in my jacket then come up to her then hand her the rose and ask her, but the idiot me at the time didn't think that people would laugh at me because she's the most popular girl in school. I was too optimistic.
I wasn't bad looking, I was a bit awkward though, and I was very impatient.
One day I decided I'll do it. I bought a rose and I waited for the right moment and I "went in for the kill".
She actually found it cute. Because I was as red as a tomato. She said yes.
After that she became my girlfriend and stayed my girlfriend for a few years until we got married.
After high school, Sara decided she was going to become a doctor, and I decided I want to join the military.
A few years go by. I end up joining the UN peacekeepers as a combat medic and Sara joins the UN as a Doctor.
My first assignment was in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was there for 7 months and I really got a view of what it is to be a UN Peacekeeper.
On the 17th of July me and my wife were sent to Miroslav to set up a large research center, we were informed about what happened in Chernarus in the past two weeks.
I was chosen with a few dozen other UN peacekeepers to go help evacuate citizens from South Zagoria
When we arrived there we immediately started helping people and protecting them from any infected that were around.
I was helping a married couple who lost their son in the crowd when an infected sneaked behind me and attacked me. I brawled with it until i finally pulled out my knife and killed it.
After the brawl I discovered I was infected and I was immediately sent to a doctor. A few moments later i started feeling the symptoms of stage one. I was dying of fear while sitting on that bed.
Slowly after time passed I started feeling symptoms of stage two. I thought I was going to die. I started writing a goodbye letter to my wife.
But. A long time passed and I was still at stage two. Doctor's were thinking I maybe immune and I was. After that they sent me back to the research center to be examined.
At the research center they did tests on me that I have no idea what they are, but at least I saw my wife again.
After they did all the testing they needed they sent me back to help the people.
There I was told by someone that there are people down the road towards South Zagoria.
I walked down the road where I saw a man trying to pickup stuff he dropped accidentally on the floor while an infected was running towards him.
I quickly respond by pulling out my FNX45 and shooting the zombie. But that was a grave mistake, Because it brought many many more infected to my position.
There was so much of them.. They were all around me, only place I could go was towards South Zagoria, so I ran.. And ran.. As far as I could to get the infected away from the civilians..
I didn't know where I was. But I thought I heard people talking in one building I saw so I went inside to look to maybe ask for some help.
When I opened the door I was immediately hit in the back of the head and I was knocked out. I don't know what happened next..
The last thing I remember is waking up on a beach with nothing but a bandage and some supplies.. At least "they" were kind enough to leave me that.
The rest of the story shall not be told, But lived through.
