Her Story ;
Born in Portland, Oregon during a camping trip on December 11th, 1998 to her mother & father of Canadian descent, Reuben Vale had an ordinary & happy life. Only being 5’1”, she’s small and easily made a target. She lived in Muskoka, Canada for the majority of her life and spent many days at the lake, in the forests or in local parks. Reuben had a love for the wildlife & animals that were around her as she grew up & had always wanted to in some way help or make things better. Rue was raised to be kind, generous & gentle. Her mannerisms weren’t always the greatest as she could be rather sarcastic & playful, but her intentions were always pure.
At the age of eleven, her father made her a wooden recurve bow and taught her how to hunt. She was decent at it, however could never bring herself to kill the animals. It didn’t sit well with her and went against what she believed in. At around the same time in her life, she became interested in her mother’s gardening skills and instead of going on hunting trips she would stay behind with her mother to learn how to grow her own crops.
Years passed and while she performed well in school, Rue struggled with not knowing what she wanted out of life. At the age of sixteen, she got a job working in a local wildlife park where she was able to work with the animals. It wasn’t always easy especially considering that a majority of the time, there were severely wounded animals and they wouldn’t always make it. Because of this, she decided to become a veterinarian so that she could help the animals survive.
Once her parents realized how serious and devoted Reuben was about becoming a wildlife veterinarian, they brought home a gift for her that would keep her company no matter where she was or what she went through. They introduced her to a brown Newfoundland puppy that she had ended up naming Graham. He grew quickly and was almost as big as her it seemed, and her parents were right, he went anywhere that she did.
Reuben ended up graduating high school a few months early and decided it was time to be serious about her career. She was accepted into college where she was offered a transfer program to a third-world country, Chernarus. The program offered her a steady job doing what she loved to do since she already had experience from working in local parks. Gladly accepting, she & Graham moved to Chernarus a few weeks after turning eighteen.
After living in Chernarus for a few months Reuben fell into a routine with Graham, her best friend, always at her side wherever she went. She befriended a colleague by the name of Oliver Caamp and grew close to him at their place of work. For the most part, Graham and Oliver were the only things she cared much about as her life had a routine of working, exploring and spending time with them, as well as sleeping. She was nothing but content.
Oliver brought in a severely wounded bear cub to the veterinary clinic one night & Reuben worked a graveyard shift tending to the cub. Once things had settled and were under control, she took her break and went on a walk with Graham. While they were out, Rue was attacked and robbed at gunpoint. Graham attempted to protect her as she had been knocked unconscious and was shot and killed. Oliver heard the gunshot and whining coming from Graham. He rushed to find Rue & Graham, but when he found them it had been too late. Rue was on the ground unconscious and Graham was laying near her, lifeless. Oliver picked Reuben up off of the ground, later going back for her dog, and carried them back to the vet where he put them in his pickup truck and drove them to the nearest hospital.
The following day as Reuben laid in the hospital bed, commotion was heard from the hospital corridors. It woke the both of them and Oliver went to investigate and quickly realized that something was wrong. The dead were walking. He ran back into the room and helped Reuben get dressed, grabbing whatever they could before escaping the hospital.
