Alexei Petrov was born in 1995 in Novigrad. In 1998, he got his first vertical grand piano. His mother and father scheduled him for a minimum of 4 hours of piano practise per day with a tutor, excluding weekends. Gradually as Alexei's skill improved, his parents started scheduling him for more hours with the tutor. Alexei skill continued to improve until he was 5 years old. One night, his mother and father had a very heated argument. His mother wanted to hold off Alexei's schooling to keep him practising the piano. His father wanted Alexei to live a normal school life so that he could have something to fall back on if piano didn't work out for him, and his mother wanted to keep him out of school and purpose his time towards the piano. His father, Alexandr, in a moment of pure frustration, left the family. Days passed and, when his mother, Anya, realised Alexandr wasn't coming back, scheduled Alexei to full-time piano practise. She registered him as being homeschooled and began to try and teach him reading and writing.
She started recording home videos of his piano playing to upload to her Facebook. Local Novigrad news took notice in Alexei and shared her videos. Soon enough, Anya was taking Alexei out to perform. This continued for a while, and soon enough the performances started paying. They paid well, and since Alexei was underaged, Anya got the money. The homeschooling lessons stopped around the time Alexei was 13. From that point forward, Alexei lived and breathed the piano.
In 2010, Anya created a YouTube channel and began to upload videos of his performances there. His local followers began to flock to this channel, and soon enough he became a sensation. His mother forced him to play the piano after Alexei began to object to constant piano playing. Eventually, around the time Alexei was 15, he was popular enough online to attract bad attention. His personal address was released online after somebody followed him home from a performance. His house was bombarded with people trying to see him. His mother and stepfather were forced to move Alexei out to Vybor under the dead of night.
Then the outbreak happened. Alexei was woken in the middle of the night when local police were trying to evacuate the city. Infected were running rampant and, in a moment of sheer terror for the now adult Alexei, his mother was walking out towards the shelter when an infected attacked her. He watched his mother collapse and he ran back inside to hide before he could view any more. Alexei hid for three days before emerging.
Alexei spent most of the time after the outbreak boarded up in his Vybor home. He made a few trips to local supermarkets, however beyond that Vybor was his home for the time being. Once more adventurous survivors began looting people's homes, Alexei left under the cover of night and, along with an axe he had found and a tent, fled to the hill just to the northwest. He'd live there for the next year, making every attempt to avoid entering cities. The first time he killed an infected was less eventful than Alexei expected. He didn't feel shock, nor hurt, nor remorse. Alexei was scared of how he lacked emotion in that moment, but those feelings wore off quickly.

One day in Kabanino, he stumbled across one of the very few survivors he had any interaction with, a man named George. George was friendly enough and they would soon meet again once Alexei finally decided to scavenge for something he could use to protect himself. This would be the day Alexei's travels with George begins.
