Jay learned from the beginning that life wasn't easy. Growing up in the heart of Detroit, he quickly became accustom to the harsh realities of life. If were not for his brother Eric looking out for him, Jay would've easily been consumed by the city.

Jay was the type of kid who always had a grin on his face. It wasn't long until he had become a familiar presence on the streets. Jay was an adventurer, though growing up in the motorcity meant very little opportunities.

His father used to take Jay and his brother up north camping and showing them practical ways of living off the land, Jay always thought it was a waste of time living in a city and all. But when his father wasn't teaching them how to tie knots or start fires, he was drinking himself into oblivion. So Jay couldn't complain.

Jay hated school, and would slack off any chance he could. It wasn't until his brother caught him skipping school hanging out with a rough crowd that Jay began to change. Jay couldn't care less about disappointing anyone, aside from Eric. That was one thing that ate away at him.

Once Jay graduated high school, he had moved on to college. He was the first in his family to go to college, so that was something he was very proud of. He took coursed for Electrical Engineering and Communications. It was a throwaway course for Jay, but after attending a few classes, he realized he had a knack for understanding radio equipment.

Shortly before graduating with a bachlors degree in Electrical Engineering, Jay received an email from a previous classmate of his. The email was a job opportunity. It was a outsourced, contracting job in Chernarus. Jay of course had never heard of the place, but put that in the back of his mind as he stared at the Salary.

The job was only for 6 months - March to September and was in search of Engineers willing to travel to the country and teach the locals how to fix and maintain communication towers throughout the country.
To Jay it sounded like easy money.
Jay thought hard about his choice to either go back to school or take the Job offer. After discussing it with his family, his brother told him to bring him back a souviner.

That was all the encouragement Jay needed to go.

He had arrived in country on March 14th 2017, and met with his work contact shortly after.

Jay spent the first month becoming acquainted with the new surroundings. The country was odd, and felt stuck out of time in his eyes. Once he had his bearings his work began. He traveled across most of South Zagoria with his liaison Alexei Sokolov. A rather large man who spoke in broken English and had a jovial laugh.

On July 7th, Jay could hear strange rumbling on the horizon as he worked up on one of the towers. Shortly after the small radio playing polka music shifted to a news report. Upon hearing the details, Alexei called Jay down and informed him the situation.

Jay dismissed the workers, and left the tower with Alexei.

Alexei took Jay to stay with him and his family in Tisy. They had agreed to remain hunkered down until the fighting stopped. Jay stayed in a guest house behind Alexei's while the situation cooled down.

However it never cooled down.

Days past and the situation was quickly becoming worse. Alexei told Jay about NATO's involvement and that things were starting to deteriorate. Jay attempted to contact his family back home, however external communication was non-existent.

After a month of hearing nothing but silence on the radio, Jay wanted to leave that farmhouse and attempt to find away back home. Alexei advised against it but retrieved an old pistol he had kept in a cupboard, handing it to Jay and wishing him well.

Jay never saw Alexei again after that.

Jay traveled for months, trying to reach the coast. His first encounter with the infected was in the city of Novaya, he narrowly escaped with his life, and had expended all of his bullets in a panic.

Over the months, Jay learned and adapted as best he could, scrounging what little he could to survive.

A month ago, Jay reached the southern docks in Cherno only to find it overrun. It was then he realized he may never get home again.
