Background
My name is Jack Cross. I’m from Flint, Michigan. My wife Caitlin and I were on a ski trip in Norway right before the pandemic first started. As soon as the virus broke out, everything shut down. We tried to get a flight home as soon as possible. But with the lockdown that Norway instituted from the beginning and then with the travel bans that were put into place shortly after by the U.S. Government, we had no way of getting home. We were stuck.
We didn’t know how bad it was at first. We wore our masks and followed all the rules. We were able to find a spot in one of the camps that were set up by the Norwegian government. We figured we would stay there until we were able to get a flight back to the states. Little did we know, we would spend the rest of our lives waiting for that flight.
Over a year went by and we started to hear rumors of people acting strange and even attacking others. People started to get worried. Some even started to panic. Then it happened. It was a night I'll never forget...
Sometimes I think maybe it was all a dream. I wake up and she's there. She's right beside me, smiling back at me. I want to hold her and never let her go. Then reality sets in. She fades away and the memory of us being pulled apart and separated in that mass group of people rushes over me.
Now, I am alone. I travel from place to place looking for anything that will help me live to see another day. I have had moments I thought may be my last. But I'm still here. I'm still alive. I have to keep going. I have to find my wife. My name is Jack Cross. I am a survivor.
