Alex was born into a poor family with an older brother and a sister. They lived on Skalisty Island next to a few other people. Alex never found the motivation to work for any bigger goals in his life. He was barely able to accomplish the simple tasks his father gave to him, rather just spending his free time messing with his friends on the mainland. Alex never liked the island and he hated being his with his older brother, always reminding him of what he is supposed to be. Their parents never made it a secret that they weren't proud of Alex, but he couldn't help himself. Growing up just to become a fisherman or something like that just felt pointless to him, he wanted to go away to make new experiences.
When Alex was 15 the Civil War broke out, leading to both his father and Merek joining the CDF. Nothing much changed for Alex, putting even more work on the shoulders of his mother and his sister. They had arguments constantly, often ending up with Alex grabbing a backpack and going out camping instead of sleeping in his own bed. He was truly the black sheep of the island, not even trying to hide the conflict between him and his family anymore.
After one especially heated argument, Alex left the house once more to go out until he calmed down. He never expected that the next day would have a bigger impact on his future than any other day in his life. Upon coming home he saw the door wide open, nearly torn out of the angles. When he walked inside his blood froze as he saw both his sister and his mother were lying dead on the floor.
After what felt like an eternity of him standing there paralyzed he finally managed to break out and started fleeing the island. He made his way to the mainland as fast as he could. He didn't know what was happening in South Zagoria so he made his way to Kirovograd. It took him a few days until he actually arrived, avoiding roads as good as he could. In Kirovograd, the police transferred him to an orphanage where he would spend the rest of his youth. For the first few months after the war, he was hoping for either his father or Merek to come and get him but neither ever arrived.
At the age of seventeen, he broke out, not willing to stay there any longer. He held himself over water by stealing and working at a bar for a bit. He was able to get a fake ID making it seem like he was 20 already. Making a lot of new friends brought him in contact with drugs for the first time of his life. It didn't take long until he realized that drugs can help with his nightmares and panic attacks and he started taking Mandrax at the age of 18.
The money he made wasn't enough anymore and he had trouble affording his addiction, leading to him agreeing to some deals he would soon regret afterwards. He got a lot in contact with the law but was always able to talk his way out of most things. It went on like this for a long time and he didn't realize that those people were exploiting him. No matter what he did they would never leave him alone again. His debt was paid a long time ago, but they told him straight up that he knew to many things and if he wanted to keep his life he should think twice about getting out. He tried to find a way to get away from them, but after nearly getting caught making a plan he decided that it wasn't worth it and gave up.
At the time of the outbreak he took his chance and ran from the people he worked for, moving back to South Zagoria.
