Carter lived a rather average life, focusing most of his time on his studies. He went to school for Mycology, receiving his PH.D in the subject, and pursued his career in the same field. After some time in the field he was recruited by one of the top organizations for scientific research in the Americas, Green Imperial Hex.  He was sent to Nyheim to research a fungus that grew specific to that area with several others in his field.  Of course had he known that the world was going to go to shit he never would've left home. 

As the world descended into madness Carter stayed safe within the walls of the city, unwilling to venture out for anything. Until much self-introspection, Carter realized his knowledge could be better used to help people.
