Riley O'Connor was a fortunate man. Despite being moderately okay at his craft, an offshore driller, he was snatched up by a Russian company to do work in the black sea. Russia was hemorrhaging for a skilled workforce so they snatched up any foreign talent they could get their hands on. For a year Riley lived the dream. 14 days on 7 days off the Rig. He spent his shore time living in Sevastopol making twice as much money as a man of his talents deserved. When conflict started escalating in Chernarus, he largely paid no mind to it. He paid little mind to world news. On July 7th he faintly recalled a story about troop movements on a tv in the terminal he departed from to start his 14 day shift on the rig. He wouldn't leave that rig for three months. Riley only caught slivers of information until the 17th. That was the day the NATO flotilla arrived off the coast. With growing dread he and his coworkers watched as things went from bad to worse. And after the NATO Flotilla was nuked they didn't know what their fate would be. War had started and they were stuck. Over the coming weeks stories of the outbreak pored in but no word of their rescue did. The rig was lucky as it has just been stocked for food and had a desalination machine. It was about 1 month after the initial detonation when the news stopped. All phone service cut out. The internet went down. Radios started slowly falling silent. Just as their food supplies dwindled their salvation came to them. . A fishing trawler passed by and brought them to Sevastopol. For two years Riley relied on his old coworkers to to help him survive in the hell whole that was this Apocalypse. It had been six months since they retreated from Sevastopol when their desperation gave them an idea. All the bombing, all of the military action had to have dwindled the infection at ground zero of the outbreak. Chernarus. 1 month later they learned how wrong they were. As the survivors entered Kamenka, thinking they had found safe harbor at last, they were beset upon by a horde to great for them to over come. Its as if all at once Zeds came from behind them, inland and infront of them. Pushed to the sea Riley was the only one to make it to a small dinghy boat he pushed out to sea as he witnessed his last friend get caught on the shore, All out of ammo there was nothing he could do but watch as his last connection in this foreign land was taken from him. In the distance he saw an island. Maybe it was free of zeds, maybe hed be safe there. He has yet to find out.
