Mordecai is is storyteller at heart. He is a fabulous liar who trusts no one, but befriends everyone.
He keeps his plans for leadership hidden at first, but his main goal is power over his fellow survivors, to win their hearts and minds so that he might influence their path forward.
He envisions a new kind of world, one that wouldn't have been possible before the outbreak, one where people would have a chance to evolve into something greater, something without the limits of "morality" or "societal norms" He knew that with the right words this new world could be formed here in the wastelands of this desolate place, he need only find them.
Mordecai is 32 years old, He is American, When the outbreak hit the states he was hold up at his parents house with his current girlfriend and dog when the infected attacked, both his parents and girlfriend were trapped inside, and instead of trying to save them he fled with his dog.
The two survived for months in the US, which turned to years, until Mordecai heard rumors of a group of survivors who had claimed to have uncovered a portion of the truth about why the world had descended into chaos. They had discovered what they dubbed "Ground Zero" of the infection. It was located in a very remote country neighboring Russia and the Green Sea named Chernarus. Mordecai knew that there was power hidden in that truth. Like the religions that built the society before him, he would go there, find these survivors, gain and use this knowledge, and shape the world to come with it. This was it he thought. His purpose. This was why he survived: to be able to make it to this place uncover the truth and build something better with it, that had to be why he chose to abandon his family, or else he couldn't go on living with himself.
When the time came to board the ships for the long journey across the Atlantic the military official said: "The dog only comes on my ship if he's butchered and cooked by dinner time".
Mordecai looked down at his four legged friend, his last tie to humanity, and scratched him behind the ear. He pulled out a can of baked beans, their last, he opened it and dumped the contents onto the ground.
As the officials made the last call for boarding, a single shot rang out...
This is the experience that defines Mordecai. It made him believe that for him to have been able to do those things, morality was a lie we told ourselves to get along and accomplish our goals. When it comes down to it people will do just about anything to survive. And that can be exploited. All he needed was to find a group of survivors, gain their trust and slowly convince them of this too.
He has a dream of a world where people don't have to do the things he'd had to do to survive but he knows that the only way to accomplish this is to become a leader willing to do whatever it takes. (This psychosis causes him to make irrational sometimes dangerous conclusions about situations concerning his own safety. He believes that he is living for the people, trying to spare them the horrors he has to endure but in reality he is hiding behind them as a shield for his own fears and misgivings)
He creates "The Dream" as a charity initiative focused towards a better life for everyone but secretly conspires to consolidate power, embezzle funds and summarily dispose of any who might challenge him.
His tragic existence can only end two ways, either he will build a world worth having sacrificed so much for, or he will die trying to find out how high the price truly is.
