It is always the "prerogative" of a survivor to feel guilt for being alive, when others did not....

John was visiting Oslo on a business trip with a few colleagues, when the outbreak happened and everyone was restricted indoors, due to lockdown. Despite the fact that their efforts to get themselves out of Norway and back to their country were failing, they didn't lose hope. They had constant communications with their families through internet, making it bearable as least. That is until early October 2021 where social media blackout...then came the internet cut off....then the demonstrations. The constant restrictions had started to affect everyone mentally and emotionally.

It was then that apparently the rumors started that people were found dead in their homes, brutally massacred. Those rumors became all the more frequent, to the point of not being rumors any more. One night, in the hotel where John and his colleagues were staying, they started hearing screams. They were not….natural… they sounded like…something….was loose inside the corridors of the hotel. A voice was suddenly heard screaming for help, only to turn into a gurgle and then go quiet. The three men closed their eyes as they imagined the horrors that were happening beyond the door.

The next day everything was quiet. Andrew, one of John’s colleagues, suggested they should dare to leave the hotel and then Oslo, but John was hesitant, but Harry, the other colleague, offered that they should at least run to the kitchen to get provisions, as they had no food in their room. They all agreed to that and decided to open the door. John grabbed a chair to use as a weapon and as he did, Harry smirked. He said that he never saw John as much of a fighter. They all laughed a little and a let a bit of the steam off. Then Harry opened the door ever slightly, to check if the corridor was clear. It was. The three men made their way towards the elevator and as they did they passed by rooms, whose doors were wide open and filled with blood stains. They didn’t dare to check any of the rooms, they just went towards the elevator. It was pointless though, as there was no power, so they decided to take the stairs with every precaution. Andrew broke the glass of a fire cabinet and removed an axe, just in case. They took every step carefully, biding their time, listening for anything that might sound threatening.

Reaching the ground floor they noticed that the place was a mess. Everything was either upside down or drenched in blood, or both. They made their way to the kitchen, only to see what looked like a hotel groom leaning over something and they could hear him munching. The trio of men looked at each other and Andrew was the one to speak first. The…man turned his head with a growl and jumped on Andrew, who fell under the ferocity of his attacker. The man acted more like a beast than a human, biting at Andrew’s neck and pulling out a significant portion of his flesh. Blood splattered the immediate area and bathed the creature in crimson rain. John and Harry screamed as Harry made a move to aid Andrew, John pulled him back and tossed the chair towards the creature. It was then that another one jumped at Harry from behind. John;s legs gave way to the horrors he was witnessing and fell on his bum. Without a second thought he stumbled his way out of the kitchen, through the lobby and out the main exit…
