Otto Higgins was a taxi driver back in Melbourne, Australia before the world went crazy. He spent his nights driving through the city, deeply alone despite the millions of people around him. He constantly imagined escaping his city life to travel the world, walking across beautiful landscapes, being more attuned to nature. One day he decided he needed to do more with his life than just imagine, and the way he started was with a holiday. Unfortunately for Oliver, he chose to visit Turkey in 2017.
After the outbreak, Oliver struggled to survive as the country went into anarchy and then complete desolation, not having any friends and not even knowing the language. He was unable to fly back home due to strict quarantine, and then after a while there was barely an airport left to go to. He’d brought some hiking supplies with him but these were quickly stolen by the violent groups that formed once the chaos started, people desperate to survive who would do anything to protect themselves.
Oliver travelled on foot, trying to reach a safer, more stable place, but all reports said that the infection had spread to every country, and there was no longer a stable place left. He stayed overnight in abandoned sheds, often sleeping in the woods to avoid the more populated areas. He became more and more paranoid of others, as every time he found something that would help him survive it was taken by someone else who had more weaponry. Over time he became colder, less trusting, and tended to avoid all people he came across.
After several years of just barely surviving, Oliver arrived on the border of Chernarus with a small collection of belongings which were promptly stolen. He had no friends or family, and had seen the cruelty that humans are capable of, but he never became cruel himself and would still rather help someone than hurt them. He has given up on ever getting home, his home is likely just as badly destroyed as Chernarus, so he has decided to find a place to settle down, to rebuild.
