A 34-year-old Swedish roughneck working for the American based Drill North company, in Chernarus performing exploration drilling for natural gas in the north east of the country before the outbreak. Trading West Africa for Eastern Europe, Dan Andersson was always ready for a challenge and a new adventure.
His job involving travel to exotic places for extended periods of time, this left Dan a bachelor by necessity, his parents dead long ago through old age, hence he was alone, with no real ties holding him back.
After the outbreak, outside the major population centers, the drill crew lived in relative seclusion in the north east of the country, listening to the UHF and VHF radios available for any clues to the mystery cause of the disease and outbreak. Hearing random crazy reports of people eating each other, widespread panic and rioting in the streets, the drill crew where at odds on what to do next. While the reports seemed like tabloid garbage, the thing did catch their attention, was that the disease was spreading.
The local drill crew left Dan and his American colleague Bill alone when they knew no help as forth coming and returned to their homes never to be seen again. Dan and Bill left the drill base once food became scarce, Dan and Bill made their living trapping small game and fishing. A hunter from an early age, Dan spent a lot of time in the rural Swedish wilderness not only homed his survival skills but his aim, big game proves no challenge. Cleaning and dressing animals ranging from ducks to elk is second nature. A useful trait in a world where food is scarce.
Whilst they craved a fairly comfortable life for themselves during the end of the world, this peaceful existence was broken one night when a large group infected passed through the area. Having never seen the result of the disease, being caught off guard, Dan and Bill got split up. Making a desperate run for it, all Dan can remember was blood taste in his mouth and the dying screams of his friend. Knowing there was nothing to be done, Dan set out alone.
A Swedish citizen by law is required to perform military service. This has left Dan with the basic skills needed to fire and maintain a variety of firearms, combat first aid as well as basic demolition skills form his time as a clearance diver in the Swedish navy. Stationed in Kosovo with KFOR during his 21 month military service, Dan saw first hand how people treated each other when push came to shove but with a firm belief in humanity and the will to do what is right, this naïve survivor crosses the land in hope of finding equally minded people. Not quickly angered, but with a strong belief in what is right, Dan will help when called upon.
Dan has been surviving by living of the land...moving randomly through the country looking for a place to call home. Finding sanctuary in the west country, where game is plentiful Dan regretfully must move into the urban centers where he can encounter what he refers to as “the baser human population”. Hell, the infected are bad but at least they are honest about what they do.
