Background

Bart Oates grew up in Michigan in a very rural environment with his father and mother. His father taught him to hunt and fish at a very early age but just after Bart's 18th birthday both his parents were killed in a drunk driving accident. He took his inheritance money and enrolled at Michigan State University where he studied Computer Science and met his eventual wife and soul mate Celeste Larionov. After college he was immediately hired by Ford Motor company as a software engineer; he made a very good living and spoiled his wife and they lived a very cozy and simple life in central Michigan.

Celeste and her family are of Russian decent and are originally from a small farm town just outside of Chernarus. Bart saved up enough PTO and money for an eventual very long vacation in which Celeste and himself planned on finally getting home to Celeste's family to check on them and also provide aid in light of the civil wars. Funded by Bart's career and blind love for Celeste (who grew to be very political and almost naive to the dangers of the area) they were able to sneak their way into Chernarus in late 2012. It didn't take a whole day for Celeste to be killed as they both were very under-prepared for what waited for them. Bart has been roaming the streets and fields of Chernarus ever since; heartbroken, confused, directionless, and focused on finding a warm bed and a bottle of vodka to escape his grim reality. At the end of it all; he never ended up meeting his wife's estranged Russian family and knows very little about the area or his wife's past.
