Home is not a single place on a map.
Its where ever you are with those you love.
Fionn Anderson was born on the 4th of January 1988 in a small town just north of Belfast called Cushendun. A small town of only a 138 people, where everyone knew everyone. Apart from its scenic landscape and notable fishing ports Cushendun was, with all respect. Boring. There was nothing and everyone there knew it. Growing up people would always talk about leaving and seeing the world, or at least the rest of the Isles. But most never did. The Andersons had been fishing in Cushendun for generations never making it further than Belfast to sell their wares. I guess after a certain point it was just expected that you would take over the family business when you came of age.
But Fionn wanted more. Needed more.
He had always said, just like his friends, that one day he'd leave Cushendun. Travel across Europe, The Americas or Asia. Nowhere was out of reach for Fionn and he knew it. His parents always humoured his crazy dreams but truly believed that just like themselves, he would one day give up. But Fionn wasn't so easily demoralised. A strong trait that he always carries with him.
On Fionns' 18th birthday, and with every last drop of his savings Fionn left Cushendun. Shocking his parents and friends, he left to begin his year long trek through Europe. But didn't stop there. Next was Asia, through the Himalayan mountains to the ports of China. Then the Americas, starting at the snowy mountains and glaciers or southern Argentina. To the crystal blue beaches of Mexico. 1 year turned into 2, then 3, then 5. Before Fionn knew it. He had been away from home for nearly 7 years. But Fionn never missed it, never once regretted leaving and with a smile on his face and conviction in his voice he could say. He was Happy. Satisfied. He had a goal in life and he did it.
So what now?
The Girl with fire orange hair
While hitchhiking through the States Fionn met Sarah. A small southern girl with eyes like emeralds and hair like fire. They met in Arkansas while both trying to hitch a ride out of the state. Turned out Sarah was quite the adventurer too. She had spent the better part of 2 years travels across every state and city in America and was now only recently trying to make her way back home to Ohio.
After walking and talking for hours along the highway unable to hitch a single ride finally someone stopped and asked where they were headin'. Sarah asked the driver if he was heading to Ohio and it turned out the man was, but Fionn had planned on continuing west. He hadn't seen any of the western states yet. As they prepared their goodbyes and wished each other luck Fionn had a moment. There was something about this girl. He wanted to go with her. Fuck the rest of his journey. Right here. Right now with her. That was his destination. He had found his Home. So before they drove off Fionn ran after her and together they went to Ohio.
The Angel in our arms
After Katy was born everything changed. There was no more need or urge to go and explore the world, Fionn had everything he could ever need, held softly in his arms. Katy was born August 2015 in Cincinnati, Ohio where Fionn and his now Wife Sarah had been living for just over a year. Thing were good. No, thing were amazing. Fionn had managed to get a small office job working in some local bank and Sarah had inherited her late grandparents family home just outside of the city.
With a beautify wife and daughter, a house and job. Fionn had achieved what many wished.
May 2019. The Frenzy Flu hits America.
No one expected it. Although they had all heard the same stories. The Virus seemed small and mostly non-threatening to Fionn. It was worse in Europe, and it seemed contained well enough in the states. But once big cities started enforcing martial law. He knew how bad it was.
Luckily for Fionn they didn't live within the city limited but instead just outside it. As long as they were out of the city and stayed away from others. They would be safe. But not everything goes according to plan. John Trevor. Such a good neighbour, always helped Fionn and Sarah out when they needed it. They even trusted him to babysit Katy when they needed time alone. He came knocking on their door, just to check in on them. No one thought twice about it until Fionn opened to door to see a pale, weak looking husk of a man. John was sick.
That's all it took for the Andersons to start showing symptoms. First Fionn was hit. Unable to leave his bed and barely able to breathe. Fionn worried about getting Sarah and Kate sick. He locked himself in the guest bedroom for weeks. Barely eating. When Fionn was at his worst he considered if maybe this is how his story would end. Laying on the ground slowing fading away while locked away from his family, trying to keep them safe. But Fionn wouldn't give into it. He refused to give up.
Near the end of his 4th week Fionn was finally starting to improve. He looked healthier but things were still far from Ok. Sarah had stopped checking in on Fionn for the past 4 days and Fionn was beginning to worry. So with strength finally returning to him, he decided to get up and call for his wife. But nothing. He opened the guest room door and called again. This time Fionn heard a weak call from the master bedroom. Sarah. Fionn quickly stumbled over to the bedroom door and swung it open.
Sarah was pale white, eyes blood shot from tears. Holding..
and holding Katy...
who was cold, and motionless in the blanket next to her.
Brighter days lead to darker nights
4 months later they announced the discovery of a vaccine. 1 month after they buried Katy. Things were getting better. Fionn tried to tell Sarah that but it didn't help. He didn't expect it to. He knew there was nothing he could say or do to help Sarah overcome her grief. Fionn was taking it in strides. He kept telling himself that there was nothing that could have been done, that there was nothing crying over it will do now. He had to stay strong and help Sarah. If they were both a mess both of them might never move on.
Fionn noticed a brochure at the lobby of his work. Just before leaving for home he decided that maybe what the both of them need is time away and this chernarus place seemed to be an obvious get away. Rural landscapes, dense woodlands. Far enough away from society that maybe they can find some peace. He also remembered that Sarah's younger brother Dexter had moved to Chernarus a few years prior. Maybe seeing him again might help her.
So as the new year rolled round, Sarah and Fionn took off to Chernarus, hoping to start fresh.
The 3rd Wave
When 3rd wave of the Frenzy hit. Sarah and Fionn didn't know. After arriving in Chernarus Sarah was happy to reunited with her younger brother Dexter but the weight of Katy's death still lingered strong in both their hearts. Seeing the happy families around the city didn't help. They needed to get away. Dexter recommended a few camping spots up north near the boarder. Completely secluded from any nearby towns or roads. Sounded perfect.
At first the sounds of Helicopters in the distance didn't bother the two. They were near the boarder and just assumed it was Russian army training, or something to that nature. The camping spot the two choose was amazing. At the base of a mountain, so no strong breeze from the coast. Thick dense forest all around them, so less chance of other campers or hikers running onto the camp. But most importantly. Completely and utterly quiet. Until the sounds of Helicopters and jets slowly began growing louder and closer.
One morning Fionn and Sarah were awoken by a jet flying right over their camp. The sound of the jet so close to the ground was so loud it dazed them both. Sarah still confused got out of the tent to check it out. Fionn not far behind. The trees around the camp where too tall and dense for either of them to see anything beyond but they could hear it.
Things happened so fast Fionn couldn't keep up. The gunfire. The explosions beyond the tree line. What was going on? Sarah look at Fionn equally lost for words. They both just stared at each other for a moment. The sound of Hell echoing through the forest and that's when Fionn saw them. Sarah had been standing with her back to where the jet had come from and Fionn could see ... People? People running through the trees. Running towards them. Fionn was only able to get out a "Look-" before they were on her. Her screams quickly silenced from the sudden weight on her back.
Fionn ran to Sarah. He managed to pull one of them off her. A young man barely 19. His eyes were completely blood shot. His skin pale with dark black veins bulging out. He looked so angry. So much hatred in those eyes. Why?
Fionn didn't have time to ponder. He turned back to Sarah still buried under a mass of screaming flesh. Fionn froze. He could see more of those.. things coming from the forest. He didn't know what else to do. A few of them had already noticed Fionn.
He had to..
