Ivashov Gomintkin, or "Preacher" as he is known by those who meet or know of him, was a orthodox priest before the outbreak. Having been a Ex-Army Chaplin for the CDF Preacher was certain that in the civil war, between the mass graves and atrocities of war, he had seen the worst that humanity had to offer. It wasn't until he had seen the beast within man unleashed that all his previous notions of what is good and evil melted away.
Ministering to his flock in Berenzino, he was among the first to encounter the horrors that was the undead horde. He watched people he knew of almost a decade turn on each other in waves. Many infected, several simply opportunists that saw their chance to right some old wrong, or take advantage of the conditions around them. Preacher, not free of this sin himself, was personally put into a position that demanded he take the lives of one of his flock to save his own skin. It was during the long exodus down the coast that he did his best to shepherd his flock through the storm, praying for deliverance from this most unholy evil. Through his prayers, as if muted by the stink that was concentrated human fear and suffering, went unheard through the storm.
Having to flee further down the coast to escape the oncoming horde, the the madness that was civilization devolving around him began to wear on his faith. If all is in gods plan, then surly these abominations played a key role. Were they yet another flood to wash man away from his decadence and sin and star anew? But isn't a new world born from sin destined to live in sin? All these were questions that played on Preachers mind as the second week of this madness took form. It was then, in Chernogosk, that preacher both lost himself, and his faith.
As the refugees arrived in the city and the army claimed that all would be made right, preacher could see and feel the fear of both the local and foreign soldiers stationed there. It was the same fear he had seen and felt during the civil war. It was then he made a decision. Visiting the church, he said one final silent prayer, then donning a regular pair of jeans and jacket set off North through the forest, hiding in rural communities and in the wilderness as the horde passed like a wave. As a great silence descended upon Chernarus, a man from the wilds. A different man. A changed man. If god has indeed abandoned his creation, then god's laws fall away. It is now the age and law of man that will spring from the rubble. And a man known as preacher will spread this law, his law, across the wastes.
