Richard Sharpe is a 29 year old high school history professor from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Richard has lived a mostly quiet life, avoiding anything that would draw him to far out of his comfort zone. He spent most of his childhood away from home either in boarding school or at wilderness summer camps. He is not athletic, nor heroic in the slightest and thinks he is a lot smarter than he actually is. Richard has a serious gun phobia, a traumatizing experience with a gun in his early years has made handling guns almost impossible for him. He lived his life shut in with his one cat Mr. Bigglesworth, Bigglesworth ended up passing away a couple of weeks before the outbreak which completely uprooted Richard's life. He didn't know what to do, so he did what most do when attempting to move forward, he went on an adventure to re discover himself. He had just learned recently of Chernarus' existence and from all the information he could gather it seemed that a lot of the country's history had been vastly overlooked. Being at the heart of the Byzantine Empire, Chernarus was a potential gold mine for the average history buff. He came to Chernarus on a personal vacation to take a look at the 9th - 12th century castle ruins strewn across the countryside. In the early stages of the outbreak Richard was exploring a set of ruins, formerly known as Nespesnov Castle, near a small village called Bogatyrka in Western Chernogorsk. He had decided to camp inside the castle grounds that night. He had been told by some locals that the castle was haunted by a Duke and his family from the late 10th century and had intended to test this myth. From atop one of Nespesnov's towers Richard was looking to the east, eagerly awaiting the sunrise from the beautiful mountain top view. That's when he started to hear the crashing of explosions in the distance. Instead of the beautiful sun rise he was greated by billowing smoke clouds and the continuing thunder of explosions in the distance. Upon returning to Bogatyrka to his surprise the village was relatively calm, Richard soon learned they had been through this less than a decade ago. The villagers said they would take Richard in while the hostilities died down, but they did not. Refugees from the East came through the woods after the first week and told of the horror that was Central / Eastern Chernarus. Within the next few days the villagers decided it would be better to move up into the mountains and take refuge there. Richard decided to follow and has been hiding among the woods ever since. Richard's main goal would be survival but there's also something that's almost equally as important to him, that is: preserving the history and knowledge of the world. He believes that in order to retain our sanity through all that's happening we must maintain some of our old traditions, such as the preservation of human history.
