Background

Captain Yu Hayashi (林勇) M.D Virologist, Medical Unit Doctor of 1st Logistic Support Regiment (第1後方支援連隊), JGSDF 1st Division (第1師団)

Born in Yokohama, Japan, Yu Hayashi was a promising athlete in High School. A baseball prodigy, he was scouted by both the Hanshin Tigers and the Yokohama Baystars. Opting in the end to sign for his hometown team of Yokohama, Hayashi's future seemed bright. However fate dictated otherwise. Before he could put pen to paper, a freak knee injury would cut his career short. After a one year stint in rehab, Hayashi tried once more to sign for Yokohama but the scouts have moved on, their interests waned. Finding his baseball career a dead end, Hayashi threw himself back into academics and secured acceptance into Yokohama City University's Medical School. Upon graduation, Hayashi found himself once more at a career crossroads. Finding the civilian medical field dull and not to his liking, Hayashi joined up with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders).

After a stint in Myanmar and South Sudan with MSF, Hayashi joined the Japanese Self Defense Force (JSDF). Graduating from the National Defense Medical College (防衛医科大学校) with a specialization in Virology, Hayashi was commissioned as a Captain in the JSDF. It is in this capacity that he was sent to Chernarus as part of Japan's contribution to the UN Peacekeeping Mission there. Arriving in 2016 with a small group of military observers and medical personnel, Captain Hayashi witnessed the outbreak of renewed hostilities between the simmering factions within the country. Amidst the conflict breaking out all over South Zagoria; his small team of medical personnel did what they could to alleviate the suffering of the Chernarian Civilians. Unwilling and unable to leave the Chernarian civilians to their doom, fate once again threw a dice in Hayashi's way. During a particularly heavy artillery barrage in Chernogorsk, Hayashi was knocked unconscious. Waking up in an abandoned makeshift Field Hospital in Chernogorsk, Captain Hayashi finds himself alone in a city that has succumbed to frenzied madness.....
