Alexei Volkov is your average, lower-middle class adult. He has lived in Chernarus his whole life. He was born in the small town of Polana and lived much like every other person in his village. He spent his days working at the local grocer making minimum wage to help support his family so they could keep paying the bills for their small house in the village. Then at night he would go out with his friends to the village pub and drink away what cash he had left. Alexei is a devout religious man, attending the local Orthodox church every Sunday. When Alexei was younger his father, Valery, would take him out on hunts and camping trips in the nearby woods so he has a basic understanding of nature and wilderness survival. This never came into play until the infection started to take it's hold on Chernarus. Alexei and his family vacated the town after listening to the news reports on the radio. They fled slightly east of Polana to a local forest surviving off the land and keeping hidden from the collapsing world around them. Though at first things seemed very stable, over time this would change. Alexei's mother, Sasha, would come down with a severe case of the flu during the first winter. She would pass two days after first showing signs of her illness.
Alexei's life and his father's were forever changed in this moment. They both watched as a loving wife and caring mother slipped out of their hands all while she comforted them, assuring them she would be okay. Alexei, although initially broken by watching his mother wither away, would use her memory to increase his own will to survive. On the other hand this had an opposite effect on his father who was a shadow of his former self after losing the love of his life. Alexei and his father would go on to survive the following spring and summer after that tragic winter only to be attacked one night by a small group of raiders and thieves. Alexei and Valery tried their hardest to defend their small camp, but that defense would ultimately crumble when Alexei witnessed his father be struck by a bullet in the neck. Valery, laying on the ground, looked at his son and used the last of the air in his lungs to yell one word. Run. Alexei has been ever since.
