Leo Aureon was a fresh off the block researcher within the American military before the outbreak, just having finished his schooling and finally became assigned to a unit to begin his studies and what he thought would be his life long career.
Within the first few months of getting to know his place and the daily routine of his job he caught wind of the suspicious infection spreading within Chernarus. It was the talk around his job site and within his unit, but nothing was ever concrete he thought. He heard it all before, especially back in high school, people liked making made up stories to cause mass confusion and such. "Yeah just like Y2K happened huh?" was one thing he always came back with, dismissing the things told to him, he's seen it too many times. That was until his leading officer called for a meeting.
Within this meeting the land of Chernarus was brought up once more, and this time not by his friends or co-workers, but the person that gave him orders. Now this caught his attention. As he was being briefed the only thing he could recall was a calling for volunteers to take a one way trip to Chernarus under special permission of the US president to conduct research within the land and would be dropped at a place known as Elektrozavodsk. They were meant to find out what happened in the town known as Berezino, hit by the infection hard alongside Solnichniy if they could even gain access to the areas.
Leo doesn't remember much of those times, it was all so fast when they arrived. He recalls how fast the infection spread and the brutal attacks in the streets, CDF men mowing down infected and humans alike to try and contain it anyway they could. His team had no chance of research, for shortly after the arrival the collapse of it all was happening. It time under such circumstances his unit was meant to just survive instead of go along with research, their was almost no flights out from all the containment, and the riots and lack of control everywhere of course brought mobs and looters. And seeing as they were meant to go in under the guise of normal researchers they weren't armed like most soldiers, meant to fit in with the civilians. As the days went on he found the group wearing thin, a few having been caught in street violence during the riots and some having a run in with the out broken infected.
What stood out to him the most was the day his last coworker died, trying to beg for help from the CDF only to be gunned down like an infected, for they were only trying to desperately contain the out break. Now being left to fend alone, it was clear he wasn't going home anytime soon, and he knew it had spread throughout the world. It was all coming down. Leo only knew one thing now, and that was to not give up, not to let his life go in this new world that was formed through chaos and death. All he knew now was to survive and maybe continue his research along the way, but that was only in the back of his mind now.
