Coming from a middle class family in California and being an only child. Cody has had a pretty stable life growing up. In pursuit of getting to know what he would actually want to do during his life, he spends a large amount time saving up for a trip to Europe to pursue an interest in history and to see if he can make a career of it. Cody's goal has always just has been to get by, to survive at all costs. He finds himself being the middle man in arguments between friends, and tends not to choose sides, as long as he can stay unaffected.
He later had enough money to go on his trip to Europe. However during the trip he had found himself in the middle of the Epidemic, once anarchy consumed the nation of Greece that is where he had stayed for the better part of the entire ordeal. Things started looking very grim for him, all he wants is to be able to go home, with nothing that could help him do that in Athens, he decided to start moving in one direction until a opportunity arose.
After crossing the Aegean sea from Greece into Turkey he had discovered just how different life can get within such a small distance. The more he traveled the more he felt disconnected with what he thought was home, Cody had forgotten the joys of home and adopted the life of a nomad, a lone wolf. He could barley handle the traveling through turkey, he was fed up with it. It was not until he crossed the Green sea from Samsun to Takistan via sail boat, that it could actually be worse. It cant get worse he said, It just cant. Cody kept moving, afraid to go more inland he traveled north up the coast of the Green Sea until he reached Chernarus.
To Cody it seems like his drifting will be never ending. With his hopes of returning home just about broken, all he seeks a sense of belonging. All of the friends that he has made through his travels have either been lost to the land or have died, at this point the unknown well being of his family is the only force keeping him going. Traveling for so long has taken its toll, he just wants to settle down for a while... belong to something... make a difference.
