Daniel (often referred to as Dan) Cushing is a lung surgeon who, prior to the outbreak, was on staff at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. A grandchild of Harvey Cushing, Dan followed in his grandfather's neurosurgeon footsteps, graduating from Harvard and completing his doctorate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. When he heard about the infection, and potential outbreak, in the country of Chernarus, he offered his assistance in finding a cure. After traveling to the city of Elektrozavodsk, he began working with the local doctors and surgeons who were still trying to find a cause, and a solution.
Unfortunately, his services were not enough, and the outbreak rapidly overtook the country. While Dan feels like he failed the many citizens of Chernarus, his knowledge and skills do not go to waste. His understanding of the human body makes him a useful medic in the case of a dire emergency, while his steady hand helps in precisely lining up targets.
Trapped in Chernarus, Daniel Cushing's only remaining goal is escape. To do that, he must survive in the wasteland he used to serve. He must gather resources, group with other survivors, and be cautious of both the infected and bandits that roam the country.
