Born in 1978, in the CSSR, Aleksander was raised like most children in Miroslavl, attending state sponsored school, taking part in state sponsored sports and eventually doing his required state sponsored military service. During his service, he attended the Miroslavl University and was studying a Bachelor of Engineering with a state-sponsorship. After the fall of the CSSR, his sponsorship was dropped and he had to continue with his military service until he could scrape up the funds in order to continue with his studies. Eventually, at the age of 26 he finished his Engineering degree and immediately re-entered the military with a commission as a Lieutenant. Again, the state sponsored his education and required Aleksander to master his Engineering degree with Nuclear Engineering, unbeknownst to the reasoning, Aleksander took the opportunity anyway.
Eventually graduating with a Nuclear Engineering Master of Engineering Science degree, Aleksander was promoted to Captain and worked several experimental fields including the formation of the first experimental Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops of Chernarus. Although no official foundation occurred, the troops trained in this practice were used sparingly and Aleksander saw the majority of his skills as wasted.
Aleksander resigned from his position as Captain and moved to Russia to Obninsk. There he was offered the position of Deputy chief-engineer of the Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant. He worked there until the 29th of April 2002, the day the Power Plant was decommissioned. He remained in Obninsk until 2012, where he moved back to Miroslavl to teach Nuclear Science at the University of Miroslavl.
The outbreak of the infection was a shock to Aleksander, but not necessarily a surprise. He has seen what was capable of the unknown sciences, but had no real clue as to how such things could scientifically occur. In the first months of the infection, Aleksander was rather safe, hunkering down with officials of the University and making some rather uncanny allies in the Central Government whilst there.
Rather fascinated by the infection, and after hearing rumors of it's causes Aleksander knew he would need a government position in order to get full access to research. He used his newly found allies in the Central Government, and his past military and educational experience to gain a commission as a Major in the CDF. He was by no means a soldier, let alone a career officer but his profession in the military was more active than most in his pay grade, but for him the path he has taken is the only path that gives him the opportunity to do his duty to his people and country. Aleksander Gusev is a Major in the newly-founded 31NBCP regiment, or Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops of Chernarus. Despite the title and commission as officer, the majority of his work is completed in a lab, working with doctors and scientists.
Although, with new orders - this changed.
