Born in the midst of summer to a wealthy family in Alma, Nathan always excelled at school and especially in mathematics which brought about his passion for classical Newtonian mechanics and ballistics. Due to his interests in ballistics Nathan also developed knack for long range shooting. He went to university and was studying to become mechanical engineer. Despite his fairly young age he was still regarded very highly by his teachers which is most likely why he ended up being given an internship abroad in Chernarus.
His assignement was to help design a new boat for a Chernorussian shipping company. He was meeting up with a guide that could speak both English and Russian. Nathan doesn’t even remember his name, he used to just call him "The Russian".
One week after his arrival, the infection began to spread. They had started working on the project at the docks of Svetlojarsk. When the guide heard about the news, he rushed to Nathan to tell him about the situation and make him pack up everything he had. They needed to escape the big cities as infection would quickly reach them.
They eventually camped somewhere in a forest. When Nathan woke up the last morning, almost all of his possesions were gone, and so was "The Russian". He got betrayed. He now had to survive on his own. Luckily, Nathan was a good hunter, and he quickly found himself new equipment in some unoccupied houses and cottages.
He survived on his own, mostly living in the forest until almost a year into the apocalypse. Surviving alone was getting harder and harder so he tried making some friends
After being robbed several times by Chernorussians he developed a powerful hatred of them, especially after a particular situation where he got severely beat up.
