Jimmy was raised in what most would call a normal God loving home. He was the second oldest of his parents four children. He had two brothers, Alex (21) and Steven (34), and a sister, Lucy (16). Jimmy's father, Jakob, and his mother, Kate, seemed like normal people, but it was all just a terrible ruse. They went to church every Sunday, never missed a day of school, got phenomenal grades, played sports, and always seemed to be doing something to give back to the community. The perfect cover. Jakob was a controlling alcoholic that would beat the kids into doing whatever he wanted. Meanwhile, their mother was so scared of the terror she had experienced with him in the past that she did little to try to stop it. This constant abuse, along with the ignorance of all those who they reported the abuse to, led the children down a dark road of mental illness. Illnesses that would eventually lead to the demise of the entire family, including their piece of shit father.
It was a warm summer in Pennsylvania in 2008. Jimmy had just graduated high school. The abuse had reached a climax in the past year. Jimmy wanted to go to college, but his father obviously wouldn't let this happen. He got a job packing boxes at a shipping plant near his house and made shit money, but he was alive and didn't have to pay rent. Everything was as good as it could be given the circumstances. Then that all changed one day. It was July 2008 and Jimmy was returning from work. He walked in the door, but something was different. Usually by this time his father was already in the living room drinking a beer, but he wasn't today. Jimmy hears light sobbing in the first-floor bedroom, so he walked over to the door, and slowly opened it. There in the middle of the floor was his father. Stabbed to death. Standing over him covered in blood was Alex (12 at this time) and Steven (24 at this time), both were expressionless. In the corner, Lucy cried. Jimmy looked at them both with a sense of pride, but also disappointment. Jimmy's older brother looked at him and screamed at him to leave. When Jimmy refused Steven grabbed the knife out of Alex's hand and threw it. It buried itself in the wall next to Jimmy. He got the point. He calmly walked to his room and packed his things. He heard his brothers arguing through the wall over what they would do with the body. Most normal kids would be freaking out, but not the McKnight’s. They were calm, cool, and collective. They were relieved of the pain. Jimmy knew he had to get out of there though. He had to make something of his life now that it truly was his. He decided to make a difference in the world. He was eighteen years old, he had his bag packed and set out the front door. He saw an opportunity to leave, so he did. Jimmy did the one thing that any young kid with a passion to change the world did. He joined the Army.
Jimmy had a pretty average military career. He was a member of the military police. He decided he liked making the difference for once. He was now the one taking the police reports instead of making them. He liked his duties in the states, but he wanted more. Luckily for him, he was deployed to Afghanistan to work security on a base. While there he managed to further his skills in the field. He appreciated having the opportunity to show off his abilities, that is until it went wrong. Part of Jimmy’s responsibilities included regular patrols with his unit. As they were on patrol one day they fell victim to an attack. The explosion from the I.E.D. destroyed the first vehicle in the convoy and flipped the vehicle Jimmy was in. Jimmy was injured in the explosion. He was peppered with shrapnel including glass and he had a concussion from the impact. However, the explosion killed his friend Jose Voss. This is when the unit was ambushed by Taliban fighters. Automatic gunfire erupted around them as the enemy combatants moved on their position. As Jimmy got his bearings he returned fire into the hills in the direction he thought the shots were coming from. As the others in his unit moved into fortified positions Jimmy was flanked and unable to move well due to the injury he suffered from the explosion. He was shot once in the calf and hit multiple times in his plate carrier. One high caliber round hit him and caused the ceramic plate to shatter and blown shrapnel against his torso. He managed to continue fighting for some time. He managed to kill approximately twelve enemy combatants before he began to feel the effects of his blood loss. At this point, he went unconscious. He woke up a few hours later in a medical unit. This is when he was awarded his purple heart.
A few months later he was back in the game. Uncle Same decided that due to his skill set he would be useful for a special assignment. He was a soldier and they appreciated that and engineers weren't exactly a dime a dozen. It also helped that after losing his friend he seemed eager to get back out there to take his mind off of the situation. A week later his unit along with many others landed on the beaches of Chernarus. He was simply a police officer, but I guess they needed order during the apocalypse.
After the outbreak, Jimmy wondered for a long period of time. He stuck to the woods and wore his woodland BDUs that had been distributed before the campaign in Chernarus had started. He managed to spend a good deal of time without having to interact with others in towns or even on roads when traveling. He ran into the occasional survivor when looting for supplies such as food and water, but for the most part, he was self-sufficient and lived off the land. His goal was to always be on the move and to be completely reliant on the land. He knew of no other survivors in his unit or really from the outpost he had been stationed, and thus had nobody to travel or settle with. The outpost had consisted of quite a few military units from around the world along with some soldiers from Chernarus. When the camp came under siege one day many of the soldiers were killed. After some time had passed many in the camp had been killed, and several other units had already been pulled from the country. Jimmy was worried that he had been left, so he decided to run to the closest large scale military camp. When he arrived he saw complete and total destruction. No survivors, hundreds of infected, and a camp in ruin. He rushed back to his own outpost two days later and found it in the same condition. This is when he went on his own.
Jimmy lost track of time, but after months of wandering, he met Chip. Chip was an older man who ran a trader shop that moved quite a bit to avoid conflict. The idea of working but also not settling in one place appealed to Jimmy. He talked Chip into making him a member of the group's security team and soon he found himself on the council of elders within the group of traders. This worried Jimmy however because this added attention made him nervous. He often remained alone or would go on walks to complete paperwork for the group or to write in his own journal.
After being with the traders for some time he made some acquaintances. Some of which he could tolerate, but many he could live without. There was one however that was different. One day while Jimmy sat in a bar he met a woman only a few years younger than him, her name was Rinka. He hadn’t been there drinking, but rather watching a group of men that had been traveling through town. She revealed to him that the men had done terrible things to people across Chernarus. Fearing that this would continue the two acted quickly. After sharing an evening torturing and killing the three men, the two decided that they could be friends after all. This was the first person that Jimmy had actually felt attached to besides his siblings who has not seen in a long time. He is scared by the feelings he is starting to get, but he also enjoys finally experiencing emotions that he hadn't been able to for many years.
