After growing up in Bloemfontein and working on his families farm in the Free State, Jannie Viljoen became competent with surveying the wilderness in South Africa. He was taught how to hunt, operate a firearm and live the life of an Afrikaans farmer after matriculating at the age of 18. A few years later he inherited his parents land and as they passed, he settled down with his childhood love Anika. at the age of 23, Anika his now wife, gave birth to his first and only son Piet. One night as the new family fell asleep, 5 men broke into the rural Viljoen property. Killing his wife Anika and son Piet before leaving with nothing but the blood on there hands. Jannie now traumatised by the sight and experience of what happened, sold what he could and fled the country to Norway. In an attempt to find peace with his soul in the lonesome north.
