In the Isreali military, Matthew served alongside his brother as a Reconnaissance unit. During his service in the military, Matthew gained many survival skills such as navigation, food acquisition as well as, weapon maintenance and a plethora of useful medical procedures. Often, he and his brother would find themselves on emergency response missions- Thus, one brought him and his brother to Chernarus to help respond to the Civil War. Upon entering the country, Matthew was astonished to see how much anarchy had spread across the nation and was dumbfounded to witness such violent and brutal acts of chaos across such a once beautiful nation.
Matthew was not new to the horrors of wartime, however, he never expected to be staying in Chernarus for so long and becoming so integrated with the war. Planning on returning in 2012, and temporarily living with his brother in Krasnostav, Matthew had a first-row seat to the spread of the outbreak. Upon witnessing some of the chaos on the 11th and having his emergency evacuation canceled (or temporarily postponed they were told), his brother and he headed to the north-east airfield to try and provide assistance or attempt to catch a ride out. Upon reaching the airfield, he had witnessed chaos that he had only seen when he had entered Chernarus for the first time. Upon seeing the mayhem at the airfield, His brother headed back to the house to gather their emergency supplies. This was the last time he had seen his brother.
Months later, Matthew (I) has been searching the nation for signs of his brother, helping whomever he meets along his path
