Gideon was sent to ground zero, like most NATO forces. Gideon was an Recon Sniper for NATO. His Job was to provide over watch and give accurate Intel to the men on the ground. He was on mission to secure some civilians that were trying to escape infected. When arrived he provided over watch for his team. The civilians were being attacked, so he took shots and his team moved in. They secured the people, and brought them on board the helicopter that Gideon was in providing support. On the way to the secure airfield up north from a city call Vybor, one of the civilians lost it and turned on one of the soldiers. The soldier then proceeded to defend himself and shot the civilian out of the helicopter. The man was shot, and was even scratched and bitten. The man did not reveal this at first, and proceeded to exit the helicopter onto the base once landed. Later that day, Gideon is preparing for another task, when an alarm is raised. He finds his team, who he has worked with a lot, and they try and figure out what is going on. They found a breach in the gate south of the base. the bitten soldier was on guard duty when he attacked the gate operator. This would then cause the base to be overrun by infected, and many choppers were sent out to evacuate the essential persons.
Gideon and his team got on board a chopper, and were providing mini gun support for the remaining ground forces, when their helicopter was hit by another. The second chopper had a pilot who passed out from a fever, after being bitten. Gideon's pilot tried to maintain control and the chopper managed to swing out of control a good bit from the base. The pilot maintained control and headed for the border completely disregarding the no fly zone command. No one questioned the pilots actions because the crew were all shook by what they had just seen. The pilot attempted to contact the Russian officials that were guarding the boarder, and let them know that there was a NATO helicopter coming their way. No Fly Zones a lot of the time do not pertain to military officials, because they usually are cleared for flight. Approaching the boarder, they saw Russian militants near an AA armored vehicle. Assuming they were going to be safe, the pilot carried on through. but out of no where the militants open fired and shot and damaged the helicopter. The helicopter spun out of control and the main engine was disabled. they crashed hard about 1000 meters from the boarder. Gideon would be hurt really bad, and be barley conscious. Gideon saw, with his eyes slightly shut, survivors leaving the crash site, only to be shot and killed by the Russian militants.
This would enrage Gideon, but he would have no strength to do anything. With what strength he had, he made a run for the woods nearby. Gideon would go unconscious after running for 30 minutes, and would not wake for many days, close to a week. Gideon would wake to find all of his men dead in a field and the pilot no where to be found. Gideon would then mourn his fellow men's death, and then press on with anger towards the Russians. They were no suppose to shoot, at least they were told not to. Perhaps they were killed because of previous conflicts with this country, or maybe they did not get the transmission in time. But this wouldn't answer the question as to why they would proceed to shoot NATO officials on the ground. Gideon seems to think that they had been given orders to let nothing through, ground or air even if it is NATO, but they would be shooting friendlies. The world has gone to hell, and those soldiers must have shot with orders from Russian commanders. Gideon next gathered what he could and pressed on on the to the NWAF. When he arrived, he found the base in ruins with infected all over. no one was left, and those who survived were either evacuated, or roaming trying to survive. Gideon found evidence that would point to NATO and the Russians giving up on this country and basically fending for themselves, while the CDF would stay and fight until the last breath, some probably still around.
weeks later Gideon made his way to a radio tower to find out if he could boost his signal on his radio, or maybe even use equipment there. He found a generator and managed to get communication online. For hours he tried to find a single transmission, but nothing came through. But suddenly, a single transmission came through, it was from a ship of the coast of the green sea. What was on the transmission...well it bothered and even scared Gideon. There was a group of men sending out one final broadcast from the bridge of their ship. They were overrun and their bridge was about the be broken into. they were talking to anyone that would listen, and they told everyone that major cities across the world were getting reports just like we had here. they said it was just a matter of time, and that....it was all over. They began to weep and the infected had broke in. gunshots and screaming was the last thing that he heard. Gideon would realize this transmission was from almost 2 weeks ago. Gideon is now on his own, looking for people to survive with. Gideon did not have much to loose, as he had no family living before the outbreak, and joined NATO to get away from the states. Perhaps to escape the pain of his past, and the horrors he had experienced in childhood that led to a broken lifestyle before joining NATO. Maybe he was trying to escape the death of his Fiance Emma, who were only 3 weeks away from their wedding before she would die from a drunk driver. little did he know, that was going to become the least of the trauma and of the horrors he would experience. So...we now have a broken NATO sniper who is wandering a country full of bandits, traders, survivors, and.... well.... of course those things.
