Jade's original name was Joshua Volbeshik, born a hermaphrodite to her parents Dimitri, and Abigail Volbeshik. Jade's mother suffered from a form of schizophrenia that became severe enough that she was institutionalized while Jade was still young. Her father, was a depraved doctor and pedophile who sexually abused and tortured Joshua after their mother was taken away. When these disgusting actions were uncovered, Joshua's father was arrested and Joshua was institutionalized into a mental health facility where they spent a good deal of time withdrawn and aggressive toward the staff.
Perhaps as a way to cope with the childhood abuse, or a symptom of his mild autism and fixation with fantasy. Joshua created a fictional sister named Abigail, and rationalized that it was this fictional sister who was abused by their father. While staying at the facility, Joshua was taken care of, and grew a bond with one of the American nurses, Sophia Nier. Sophia was the one who taught Joshua basic English, this was adopted as Joshua's new native language in order to further separate him from his past. Sophia gave Joshua a Jade stone as a keepsake, it was something Joshua held dear.
When the infection started, and people were being evacuated, the facility went into disarray. In the confusion Joshua was separated from the rest of those trying to evacuate from the infected, and spent a few days held up in a shed. On the brink of starvation, Joshua emerged from the shed and began to search the nearby buildings for any source of food. With no luck, and about to buckle under the immense hunger, Joshua stumbled onto an unknown man who must have recently died in a barn. Using what little strength he had left to fight off an infected, Joshua peered down at the lifeless body of the man and was consumed by the hunger.
When Joshua woke up the next day, the dead man was missing flesh, and Joshua himself was covered in blood. Unable to deal with the reality of what must of transpired, Jade Graves was born. Jade rationalized that Joshua was a separate part of herself, a proverbial "big bad wolf" that she could blame for the horrible things she had, and would do in the future. After finding a stuffed bear, Jade began to call it Joshua, in order to further distance herself from the atrocities.
Luckily, Jade met a man and woman who took her in and helped to 'raise' her in this new world. Liam and Lucia Page. They followed some sort of 'new gods' in this world, and would preach to her about the virtues of these deities. Liam claimed to see visions, while Lucia translated these visions and spoke them into words they could understand. Although they attempted to preach this religion to Jade, and Liam tried to perform 'ritual rites' to enable Jade to 'see'. She eventually felt as if she had visions of her own, perhaps caused by her tendency toward delusions regardless of having met them. Jade began to speak of some sort of 'God of Entanglement', although Liam and Lucia didn't recognize this god as one of their own, they believed that whatever Jade was experiencing was meant for her to pursue.
Jade began to preach about Quantum Entanglement, claiming that she saw a vision of a facility that was attempting to bridge the gap between two mirrored worlds. She believed they were attempting to harness some sort of power, and that in the process of trying to open a doorway into this other universe inadvertently caused a catastrophic event that they couldn't contain. She believes that the infection is a sickness, caused by a contaminant from this other world, having adverse effects on the human bodies of this world. Her understanding is that if the 'infection' were to contaminate everyone in this universe, it would cause the fabric of reality to tear, and the universe as we know it would probably collapse on itself. Then again, she also believes shes the current Lord of House Graves. Cursed son to a Lord who made a pact with some sort of extra-dimensional 'devil'. (So she's probably doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about.)
Jade has now set out on her own, in order to try and get a better understanding of this new world.
