Jake Lawson was a computing teacher before the outbreak; he was on a cruise during the holidays with his wife, best friend and best friends wife. He wasn't aware much of the outbreak whilst on the cruise, disconnecting himself from the world and technology as he was enjoying seeing the world around him at each stop on the cruise.
One night, the cruise-liner hit something and the ship started sinking. He doesn't remember much from this night except for loud bangs, crashing and fires breaking across the ship. He doesn't remember seeing his wife, best friend or his best friends wife or leaving the ship.
Jake awoke in what looked like a military hospital, or camp - he's unsure, being surrounded by people trying to help him. He remembers the smell of smoke, screams of what seem to be other patients and what sounds like explosions far away. Always going to and from consciousness Jake recalls seeing doctors, others running around and a lot of shelling - explosions.
Finally awaking from consciousness an almighty explosion close to the military camp, or location, he hears screaming and what sounds like growling. He can hear people shouting and telling others to run, to run like hell. He goes unconscious again and suddenly wakes to a man shouting at him, telling him to get up, to run and get out of here.
This man pulls Jake up, they run out of the military camp and head for the woods. They wander for days. Hungry, thirsty and cold; they find refuge at an abandoned house where the man lays Jake down and tells him to wait here as he needs to go to forage some food or something to drink at least. Jake falls asleep, unconscious and oblivious to what is going on.
Suddenly, Jake wakes. Unsure of how many days have passed, or hours. He gets up and tries to recollect himself, to remember what has happened. Who was this man? Where was he? More importantly, where is his wife? Jake rests for a few hours before setting out - he needs to find this man, his wife, his best friend and his best friends wife.
