Malek was born and raised in rural Britanny, France. His parents were drug addicts and alcoholics like many in these rural areas. Growing up this was tough to deal with but as he got into his mid teens he decided it was time to let go of his parents and move out on his own. He knew the environment he was in was very unhealthy and he didn't fancy turning down the same path as them.
When he was old enough he decided he wanted to travel but being poor and from the countryside made that impossible. Then he thought he could achieve traveling by working in the military field. He decided to join the foreign legion and became an infantryman. He went through the Foreign Legion's intensive training and after a while got deployed to Afghanistan where he worked with Dutch troops, Danish, English and American. After a few months he met a young man named Kerry that was in and out of Korengal Valley. He listened to Kerry with astonishment about what happened there and they became friends.
After the deployment in Afghanistan he returned home. Despite not having been in fierce combat himself, what he saw there hardened him and he turned to the bottle for a long time and then realised enough was enough. He didn't want to become a legacy to his parents and he left everything behind and headed for Chernarus to get a new taste of conflict-life. He got exactly what he was looking for, and even more. He had gotten word from Kerry that he would be going to travel from Chernarus back to France and they could meet up, however soon after he got another message that the borders were being closed and some sort of outbreak had taken hold of the region. Malek made the final decision to go and look for his old war-vet friend.
