Philip had always been a troubled child, suffering from schizophrenia from a young age, often hearing voices and seeing dark shapes or looming figures. His parents who were fanatically christian often told him that it was god speaking to him and that they were there to help, they refused treatment, refuting that anything was even wrong with him and saying he was "blessed". This didn't help his delusions, especially when the voices began telling him to hurt things.
It started small, bugs, mice, rats. But slowly he started looking towards bigger prey. One summer a neighbours rabbit goes missing, then a dog.. Then their daughter. His village was small and everyone knew everyone, yet somehow as if through the fate of god, the murder of the young girl was blamed on an escaped psychopath from an nearby mental care unit.. it was odd how close to the truth they were.
It was a few years until Philip was told to find a new target, this time far more close to home, at the young age of 9 years old Philip took a hunting knife from his father's bag and murdered his mother, the coroners report stated that the stab wounds and mutilation showed a terrifying amount of rage directed at the woman, even though she had always been caring towards the boy and there was never any evidence of abuse.
Philip was tried for premeditated murder but was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was instead taken to a ward for damaged and criminally unstable children. Here he lived and was raised by the state, it was some of the best years of his life, his mental condition was under control through medication and therapy and he discovered a love for history and the arts, and finally at the age of 19 it was decided that so long as he kept on his medication and had regular check-ins with a psychologist, he could return to society.
Once he was released, Philip quickly did his best to get his life in order, he signed up for University, having already gained a few english and history qualifications while in the ward. Getting accepted into a BA history course, passing with flying colours and having little issue with his mental state, staying on his meds and working hard with his therapist, he entered into his Masters Degree in History studying links between ancient pagan religions and a series of smaller religions based in eastern europe. He made friends, not the sympathetic visitors to the ward, or over friendly attendants, but actual, close knit, "have a pint at the pub" friends.
Heading towards summer and the group of guys were trying their best to find some way of killing time, hanging out in a quiet library, studying for their last few finals and scouring unusual books hidden in the odd corners no one thinks to check. The group found an something odd indeed, a thick tome written in some odd and crazy language, just reading gave Philip a headache but they all became oddly.. obsessed with it, they had to know its secrets.
Together the group studied and combed through all the knowledge they had, late nights spent snooping through dodgy satanic websites and occult decoders, they found nothing except for one lead, a man in chernorus who might be able to help them. Abandoning their studies the group took off, hiking out into forests to find the man.. However none heard from Philip again and once the border was closed, he was all but forgotten about by those back home, presumed to have ran away or killed himself.. oh how wrong they were.
