Background

James is the subject of a typical suburban American upbringing. A loving mother and father, an uninteresting childhood, good grades in high school that amounted to being accepted into a decent college.

During college, an interest in the intelligence community thanks to one too many spy movies. Ultimately enlisting as an officer in the U.S. Army ISA, then leading to recruitment into the CIA after several years of noteworthy clandestine operations in Iraq, Iran, and China. South Zagoria ended up being his and his team's latest, and as it would turn out, most daunting assignment. While the assignment itself was and still is classified to this day, the destabilization of the local government was paramount. The task ended in a critical failure at the onset of the outbreak with the majority of the interwoven special forces teams eliminated first by the CDF due to a leak within the group, then the infection itself as time progressed. James hid among the chaos, as did a few other surviving members of the task force.

In time, his orders changed. Communiques with the Central Intelligence Agency, while sporadic, still filtered in with small parts for him to play even as two years passed and the infection settled worldwide.
