Background

My character's name is Ptolemy Otimko. Ptolemy is the son of an English woman and a man from Chernarus. His father, Andrei, insisted on giving his son a Russian name, which his mother finally agreed upon. Shortly after Ptolemy was born, his father became overcome with paranoia and drank heavily to suppress his anxiety. This behavior coupled with his angry outbursts forced Ptolemy's mother to leave with him and go back to England, where Ptolemy would then be raised. He grew up only really knowing his father by name and through warnings to not try to visit Andrei. He and his mother weren’t very close as she always worked multiple jobs to keep up with their bills as a single income family, along with the vague warnings of Andrei, Ptolemy began to resent his mother for keeping the truth from him. After finishing secondary school, Ptolemy left home and went on to study history and Russian at university while working part-time construction and retail jobs to save money. As a student of history, Ptolemy has a higher than usual appreciation for historical artifacts, weapons, and buildings that have a historical significance. During his time at university, Ptolemy developed a strong drinking habit and would spend a lot of time and money at bars near the campus drinking himself and his friends under the table. This made him slightly more aggressive than before and burned away much of the money he had been saving for years and steadily brought his grades down as Ptolemy went into an alcohol-induced depression. Eventually, Ptolemy dropped out of university and worked small time jobs to pay rent and scrape together a modest living. For a time, Ptolemy lived paycheck to paycheck burning through his savings. Soon the curiosity of his father reached the front of Ptolemy’s mind for the first time in years. Using his last savings and going against the warnings of his mother, Ptolemy paid for a trip to Chernarus to visit Andrei and finally get to know his father. Ptolemy made contact with his father and found him living in a small village 9 kilometers west of Vybor. At first, everything went well and Andrei was relatively normal. A few days after arriving at the village, Andrei and Ptolemy noticed a newspaper pinned to the village’s announcement board, along with an evacuation notice. The newspaper told of the growing epidemic in Chernarus and the panic spreading through the city. This immediately caused a shift in Andrei's personality. He became frantic and yelled for Ptolemy to come with him to be safe. Ptolemy, panicking and afraid, agreed to follow. Andrei brought Ptolemy to a makeshift survival bunker where he was forced to stay with Andrei for nearly two years, being chained down during sleep and constantly watched to make sure he wasn't trying to leave. Eventually, Andrei collapsed one day and died for reasons unknown to Ptolemy, who preceded to gather his belongings and leave the bunker into a completely changed world. He went East towards Vybor where he had stopped two years prior but he found nothing but an empty town littered with corpses. Ptolemy carried on trying to find safety and a way to communicate with the outside world. With his hopes that the infection had been handled being crushed Ptolemy wants answers as to what happened, and if the disease had spread worldwide, more specifically, to England. Most importantly, Ptolemy wants to survive, and if possible, return to a life in a zombie-free England and escape the ongoing apocalypse.
