As a child, Nikolai was ignored, neglected, and his only purpose seemed to be serving as a slave to his parents whims and demands. Any of which could be chores, dangerous tasks, or doing the things they were responsible for but were too lazy to do. His parents suffered under the Communist regime and they were poor civilians who had nothing and consequently went day to day not caring about hardly anything, much less their son. As such, Nikolai was doomed to not succeed at much from an early date. He never received formal education, never learned hard life values, and he too grew to not care about a great many things like his parents didn't. After much time spent in the trashy suburbs of Smolensk, one day Nikolai simply grabbed a ride from a stranger and headed wherever that stranger took him. Risky, though it was, Nikolai was not aware of the dangers that such a decision could face and he had no idea how much effort was involved in fending for yourself, so the clutch decision was made easy for him. He eventually ended up in Chernarus just before military conflict caused instability in the region. It was so rural there that roaming was not all too bad for him. He would do odd-ball jobs and he came into cash frequently from his lack of shame and self-integrity due to no teachings of what was right and wrong. He committed some crimes and did some good deeds and everything in between. Eventually he found himself slave to the bottle, and that became a quick addiction to him. He is quite a low-life now, he doesn't smell too good by himself, let alone the stench of alcohol on him, and the only reason he survived is because he passed out in an abandoned shack in the middle of the north when the surges of infected swept through towns and headed south. He emerged, waddled off to his daily shenanigans and came to find out that everything seemed to be deserted. It didn't connect that something happened right away, he simply got right down to looting and stealing as much unattended food and alcohol as he could find until he finally began meeting survivors who educated him on what happened. He is slowly finding new ways to make sure he stays alive, all while giving in to his love of food and alcohol.
