My name is Dion Benson. I was forester before all this started.
Everyone always asks 'where were you when it started?' so I guess I'll start there.
I had my four days off when it began, chilling at home going through a GoT marathon when I started hearing a lot of my neighbours shouting. At first, I thought they were having another of their rows but when I went to investigate they were hurriedly packing their car for what looked like at the time a camping trip. These two were always having a go at each other so I didn't think much of it. But then after being disconnected from humanity for two days, I was confused when the power went out. I went to my brother's house down the road to check on his family and touch base but when I arrived I found his wife's and two of his three boys naked bodies on the ground gunshot wounds to their heads. I panicked there and then, I didn't know what to do. I tried calling the emergency services but the lines were down and CPR was not successful. There was nothing I could do so I went upstairs to find some clothes and at least protect their dignity. After that, the best thing I could do was to go home and try to call my brother on the landline. When I was leaving the house I heard screaming from down the street. I ran towards it and saw one of my neighbours being dragged by her hair out of her house. Three men with guns were sneering and one was starting the ute they had brought with them. I knew to make a move right there and then would have been a stupid move so I sprinted home and grabbed my hunting rifle but as I was running out of my house I heard the car take off.
As much as I wanted to try chase after them I decided my priority was to stay home and wait for my brother or his son Jim to return. I left a note for Jim to come and find me and then went home. I knew that something serious was going on and thought of my neighbours packing their car so I decided to do the same. That night my brother came in a panic to my door. I explained to him what happened but I couldn't face telling him that his wife and children may have been raped. I told him thugs were just after their food and had killed them. He explained to me the proportion of the epidemic at hand and we decided to leave and try find Jim. We left a note detailing what UHF frequency we would be monitoring and then head to the woods. Soon we got wind that the thugs were still in the area. We HAD to make them pay. We followed them northeast for days and at one point we must have been one day away but just that night we were ambushed at by our campfire. I yelled for George to run as I grabbed my rifle. I aimed at the nearest muzzle flash but before I could fire a firm hard crack hit me on the back of my head and everything went blank. I woke up almost naked with only a smouldering fire and bullet casings for company.
I lost my brother, now I am alone and I don't know what I'm going to do.
