DayZ 2017

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/11/16/dayz-2...more-hobo/

What do you guys think about this?

IMO it looks very nice and "more realistic zombie apocalypse survival" game than our beloved current DayZ.
By the way map what this mod is using is really nice too. You can check it HERE

Love the idea; the map not so much - at least what we see of it in that video. Too open. Plus, as a former STALKER, I feel more at home in the post soviet style maps.

RE: DayZ 2017

Arma 2 was never built to specifically use melee weapons. My only concern with this mod is the mechanics of the melee, seeing as how it could be quite buggy. If the game's weapons are most likely to be melee well, I would like to see a significant improvement in the mechanics before I'd enjoy it most likely.

The Map however, I love, sometimes a bit too much military, but door bells that attract zombies and a nice layout with very little sniper hills make it a very fun map.

RE: DayZ 2017

This looks like an interesting prokect but the Celle map is too small and has too much open space.

The civilian/rural theme is a nice route to take with mostly single shot weapons and sidearms I presume.

The issue with too little loot is that it can be frustrating to go through several places with loot spawns and find nothing; boredom can then be a problem.

A civilian-based mod like this combined with an RP set of rules like DayZRP would maybe make a very interesting combination.

@ Jij - I saw no mention of melee weapons at all. Perhaps its still just axe and crowbar.

What I would like to see is more survival aspects, more way sto interact with the environment.

I thought this mod looked really cool, but with standalone coming very soon, I don't think many people will play on it. And just as in day z, servers without not many people = pretty boring game play.

RE: DayZ 2017

I suppose it could offer a different enough experience to the stand alone to retain players. I'm just doubtful about the Celle map which really is ArmAII's "tank warfare" map. All open rolling north German plains...

If you love the military theme why don't you play Arma 2 domination or warfare?

“My name is Maximus Decimus Kristiansson, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the SF legion, loyal servant to the true admin, Rolle. Father to a murdered son, husband to a kidnapped wife. And I will have my vengeance on the bandits, in this life or the next.”

RE: DayZ 2017

I've played the mod today, but on Chernarus. Dont know why would you make it on Celle... with all respect to the effort made to create this map... it's really not too realistic, it's made to be a tank battle map.
Terrain is just too flat, all the grass is the same weird green color and same size and shape, every location feals the same... there is no variation.

Not to discourage you from the mod but If you take out the military part out of dayz, you have to replace it with something. I've played today got all survivor gear, 20 slot bag, food, water, medical supplies and lee enfield... and I feel like this is the end game... I'm equipped as I can be within hour and a half.
Dayz is military simulation with integrated survival elements. Nature survival is simply not developed enough in ArmA... its not very interesting running around from pond to pond to drink water and lurking from bush to bush to hunt very stiff slow moving harmless animals.
And reducing combat and loot to just couple of basic pistols and rifles makes it all more predictable. There is not that much to find or to do.

There would have to be some loot that is rare and valuable (not vehicles) or settlement building or something...

With all this negative commentary I have to say that I like you idea of mod and I like your skins and models... your character looks like he has been scavenging for years, like mad max kinda thing. It would be nice to be able to upgrade the cars, and you need replacement for helicopter crashes, some random events or any kind of high value thing

I'd love the idea of having the militairy stuff cut out.

Just basic equipment. No helicopters and high grade nightvision goggles or GPS.

Be happy with a working compass and a readable map. And a watch that actually runs.
Scrap a car together that doesn't even look like a car anymore. No shiny SUV's and seemingly new looking ATV's

A can of edible beans should be the rarest item you can find, surely after 5 years all of these are gone.

You want to drink? find a lake, you want to eat, find animals, or maybe add an option to go fishing.

DAYZ as it is now feels more like a luxury camping trip.

This.

This mod has so much potential, a true zombie apocolypse survival theme rather than the usual 50. Cal wielding Ghillie-men who roam around all day in their SUVs. Reducing the weapons has added serious realism and food is VERY rare in this mod, making hunting a seriously important feature.

All my love for 2017.

Darling.

I like the idea of the mod because one of the reasons I like the zombie genre is the need for improvisation, armed civilians, and that general "trashy" look.

Hopefully this will make it more of a struggle to actually survive and not necessarilly thrive. It's way to easy to get enough food and water in the game so it turns into a mad dash for bigger and bigger weapons. Like you guys said I really hope this gives off the same vibe like in The Road.
